Under the general direction of the ASRC Controller, the incumbent applies principles of accounting and finance to develop and interpret financial and accounting concepts. This position provides support for monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting, planning, and analysis of the Corporation, primarily for the Utqiaġvik subsidiaries. The secondary function of this position is to provide support in the overall monthly close process for ASRC Corporate and Utqiaġvik Subsidiaries. The Senior Accountant’s duties are to support the operation of the Finance Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

  1. Assist in the preparation of all Utqiaġvik Operations and ASRC Corporate month end closing entries to allow a timely month end closing process to meet ASRC Corporate’s deadlines.
  2. Maintain records of sales, rents, cash receipts, bank activity, accounting files, ledgers, and other data information systems.
  3. Maintain necessary documentation of Treasury reporting daily transactions from the bank including daily and monthly reconciliations.
  4. Assist with Accounts Payable review and approval.
  5. Implement and monitor financial internal controls for all Utqiaġvik Operations.
  6. Monitor and reconcile all intercompany balances between Utqiaġvik Operations and all other ASRC entities for each month end close.
  7. Assist with the overall system closing process for timeliness, accuracy, efficiency and consistency (general ledger, projects, fixed assets, accounts receivable and accounts payable).
  8. Prepare month-end journal entries for Utqiaġvik Operations as needed
  9. Assist with the monthly p-card close process.
  10. Complete the monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
  11. Assist with the Arctic Education Foundation’s Audit and Check Runs.
  12. Assist with the administration of Finario – ASRC’s Authorization For Expenditure (AFE) Application.
  13. Cross train with the Utqiaġvik Accounting Manager to serve as backup for critical tasks
  14. Assist with the review and processing of dividend check runs for accuracy to ensure timely and accurate processing.
  15. Perform daily and monthly reconciliations of shareholder files.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  1. Strong knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to the Iñupiat culture.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in establishing and maintaining accounting records, files, ledgers and data information systems.
  4. Computer efficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Oracle Accounting System.
  5. Must have strong verbal, written and organizational skills.
  6. High level time management skills.
  7. Ability to multi-task, as well as work in an organized and efficient manner.
  8. Problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level
  9. Must have strong interpersonal skills, maturity and good judgment and be capable of communicating with a diverse range of individuals.   
  10. Ability to maintain confidentiality and trust. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

The work environment is in a busy office setting.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may be required to travel in small and large commercial aircraft.
