Builders Choice offers a complete line of building and construction materials to commercial and residential buyers throughout the state of Alaska. With locations in Anchorage, Soldotna and Wasilla, we offer a broad array of building materials to clients all over the state. 

 

The Yard Manager is responsible for managing material handlers & delivery staff in facilitating the timely flow of materials to and from customers and vendors.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise assigned staff including material handlers, receiving clerks. and drivers.
  • Manage the yard functions including fulfillment of orders, receiving and delivery.
  • Ensure cleanliness and proper presentation of the yard and warehouse.
  • Manage fleet and equipment maintenance by scheduling maintenance and managing the process of repair when equipment is down.
  • Prepare for and assists in the running of bi-annual inventory.
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings and completes monthly safety audits.
  • Review shipping tickets for accuracy prior to scanning to shipping clerk.
  • Facilitate proper packaging of building materials to minimize damage during loading & transportation.
  • Move material from the warehouse or yard using a forklift, hand truck or other types of equipment.
  • Provide oversight to ensure properly built loads considering the end users order of use, weight, and proper placement on the truck in relation to the delivery schedule.
  • Communicate and coordinate with employees to ensure the on time and accurate fulfillment\receiving of sales and purchase orders.
  • Communicate effectively with all customers to safely transfer loads onto customer trucks and trailers.
  • Move, lift, and handle material shipments as required when offloading company freight.
  • Assess hazardous material shipments, completes the applicable forms required for compliance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS 
Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Three (3) years’ working in shipping and receiving with increasing responsibility. 
  • Ability to work outside or in a cold environment for long durations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a forklift certification with 7 days of hire. 

Preferred 

  • Valid driver’s license, with an acceptable driving record. 
  • Two (2) years’ experience in a supervisory role. 
  • Current forklift experience and certification.
