Job Description: Assistant to the Director of Canine Development

Assistance Canine Training Services (ACTS) is hiring a motivated individual to assistant our busy Director of Canine Development. Responsibilities will vary based on experience. Must be a fast learner, organized, good at multitasking, accurate but efficient, and willing to do a variety of tasks. Beneficial skills include computer and database experience, dog/veterinary care, dog breeding, and dog training.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the training and evaluation of puppies and dogs in the program.
  • Support final dog evaluations and training prior to placement.
  • Facilitate team training and work directly with clients.
  • Provide ongoing evaluation of each dog’s training progress.
  • Conduct BCL temperament testing and assist with data collection.
  • Work with breeders and the ADI Puppy Cooperative to coordinate litters.
  • Oversee the placement of puppies with volunteer puppy raisers.
  • Arrange veterinary care and maintain medical records for all dogs.
  • Organize and coordinate puppy transports.
  • Support the University of Vermont puppy raising program (UPRAWR).
  • Assist in coordinating and facilitating the breeding program.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to dog training and health.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with dogs is a plus but not required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while also taking direction.
  • Comfortable working with both dogs and people in a variety of settings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Salesforce experience a plus.
  • A positive attitude, flexibility, and a strong work ethic.

Pertinent Details

  • Reports to the Director of Canine Development.
  • Full-time 40 hours with occasional weekends and evenings.
