What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Care Unit Coordinator position at Assisted Living and Memory Care?
Job Summary
Responsible for providing overall leadership and supervision of staff in the Special Car Unit that is providing for the care and needs of residents with a diagnosis of dementia.
Essential Functions
1. Directs the day-to-day functions of assigned staff in accordance with current rules, regulations and guidelines that govern the community. Assists with direct care duties, as needed.
2. Ensures that assigned staff complies with the written policies and procedures established by the company and the community.
3. Meets with staff and support personnel, to plan and schedule shifts, services, programs, and activities.
4. Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis as well as a calm environment throughout the department.
5. Participates in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies, as required.
6. Completes accident and incident reports, as necessary.
7. Performs administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.
8. Reports all discrepancies concerning physician’s orders, diet changes, charting errors, etc. to manager.
9. Reviews medication cards for completeness and accuracy in the transcription of the physician’s order and adherence to stop order policies.
10. Disposes of drugs and narcotics as required, and in accordance with established procedures.
11. Informs manager of staffing needs when assigned personnel fail to report to work and makes recommendations for coverage. Provides coverage as necessary.
12. Provides leadership to personnel in assigned department/shift. Participates in the hiring, firing, and disciplinary process for staff positions. Provides feedback for and may complete performance reviews.
13. Makes periodic checks to ensure prescribed treatments are being properly administered.

Education and Experience
High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required. Previous experience in assisted living, memory care, long term care or hospital setting. Previous supervisory/ management experience preferred.
Management/Decision Making
Uses limited independent judgment to make decisions based on precedents and established guidelines. Solves problems using standard procedures and precedents. Knows when to refer issues to supervisor and when to handle them personally.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
