Position Summary:

The Patient Collections Specialist will be responsible for managing the accounts receivable process for Associated Retina Consultants. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and possess excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the accounts receivable process, including posting payments, following up on unpaid claims, and submitting appeals as needed
  • Work with insurance companies and patients to resolve billing discrepancies and ensure timely payment
  • Monitor aging reports and identify delinquent accounts for collections
  • Respond to patient inquiries related to their accounts
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient account information in the billing system
  • Follow established policies and procedures related to billing and collections
  • Collaborate with other members of the billing and collections team to achieve department goals and objectives
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications


Skills and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • 2 years medical billing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of insurance guidelines including HMO/PPO, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer requirements and systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and 10 key calculators.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology, including CPT/ICD-10 coding.
  • Effective communication abilities for phone contacts with insurance payers to resolve issues.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology likely to be encountered in medical claims
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality as per the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • In office environment with controlled atmosphere. Possible exposure to staff or patients with communicable diseases and blood borne pathogens.
