Associated Students Summary
Associated Students’ (A.S.) mission is to support and represent the students of San José State University by continuing the organization’s legacy of student advocacy and leadership; to enhance SJSU students’ education through high quality programs and services; and to prepare students as they move towards a thoughtful and purposeful life after graduation.
A.S. is a non-profit auxiliary corporation serving the students of San Jose State University whose primary source of funding is from mandatory student body fees. A.S. Departments include the Cesar Chavez Community Action Center, Child Development Center, General Services Center, Human Resources, Information Technology, Events, Marketing, Print & Technology Center, Student Government, and Transportation Solutions.
Position Summary
The Cesar E. Chavez Community Action Center, a department of Associated Students, connects San Jose State University students with community service opportunities that deepen the educational experience while promoting the lifelong commitment to civic activism at the heart of the Cesar Chavez legacy.
Essential Functions
- Manage and maintain CCCAC’s social media accounts (Instagram, TikTok, etc.), ensuring consistent and engaging content.
- Develop creative and culturally relevant content, including graphics, videos, and stories, to promote CCCAC programs and events.
- Assist in executing a strategic outreach plan to increase attendance and engagement at CCCAC events.
- Support general CCCAC marketing efforts by tabling at campus-wide events and conducting classroom and student organization presentations.
Special Programs & Events
- Assist in the planning and coordination of CCCAC Special Programs, such as Legacy Month, Rooted, CHI Day, and others.
- Provide logistical and operational support for events, including setup, promotion, and day-of execution.
- Contribute to the development of new programming that aligns with CCCAC’s mission and student interests.
Community Engagement & Representation:
- Represent CCCAC in meetings, events, and conferences with students, staff, faculty, campus leadership, and community organizations.
- Help foster and maintain reciprocal relationships with community partners and student organizations.
- Work with the CCCAC team to develop and implement a strong volunteer culture on campus.
Administrative & Team Support:
- Provide front desk coverage, offering general support and assistance to students and visitors.
- Assist with clerical tasks, including errands, flyering, research, and phone/email communication.
- Participate in CCCAC staff meetings and professional development sessions.
- Collaborate with all CCCAC staff and the Associated Students Board on shared initiatives.
- Support CCCAC special events and programs as needed.
- Participate in summer orientation events if applicable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrate capacity to work effectively in a diverse University environment; Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with the CCCAC, A.S. and Student Involvement personnel
- Experience with creating content on social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, etc.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting

- Ability to manage a project from start to finish
- Ability to present in classrooms, workshops and related events

- This job operates in an office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
Work Environment, Hours, and Physical Demands
- Must be able to operate a computer, including a keyboard and mouse, and phone.
- Must be able to occasionally lift or carry office or event products or supplies, up to 40 pounds.
- Must be available to work 15-20 hours a week, Monday through Friday from 8:00AM -5:00PM.
- Reliable and consistent work attendance and professionalism is required.

Required or Preferred Education and Experience
- Must be a current matriculated San José State University student
- Experience in social media management, including content creation, scheduling, and engagement across platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok.
- Basic proficiency in digital design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms) for creating graphics and promotional materials.
- Knowledge of community engagement strategies and a passion for social justice, civic engagement, and student advocacy.
- Has taken a course in Political Science, Ethnic Studies, Gender Studies, or a related field, or demonstrates a strong passion for social justice and community advocacy.
- Experience or willingness to learn video editing for short-form content creation (e.g., Instagram Reels, TikTok)
- Understanding of or experience with CCCAC programs, campus activism, or community service initiatives is a plus.
