POSITION DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Insurance Follow Up / Claims Management
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for processing, reviewing and filing insurance claims. Responding to patient and third-party inquiries. Working closely with other
Business office staff and departments.
DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Operations Director
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES: None
LOCATION: All locations (East, West and/or Newton)
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
1. Assist in the processing of insurance claims.
2. Reviews and verifies insurance claims.
3. Processes insurance correspondence and all insurance forms.
4. Follows-up with insurance companies and ensures claims are paid.- as assigned
5. Answers patient and insurance telephone calls regarding balances, claims and accounts.
6. Resubmits insurance claims that have received no response.
7. Answers telephone calls, screens calls, takes messages, and provides information.
8. Maintains strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
9. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
The job holder must demonstrate competencies applicable to the job position.
EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of six months of medical office billing experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. Knowledge of billing practices and AWH policies and procedures.
2. Knowledge of coding and AWH operating policies
3. Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance practices.
4. Know of grammar, spelling and punctuation to type correspondence.
5. Skill in gathering, interpreting and reporting insurance information.
6. Skill in trouble-shooting insurance problems and claims.
7. Skill in written and verbal communication.
8. Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
9. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
10. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public.
11. Ability to identify claim problems and recommend solutions.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment that may require viewing computer screens for long periods of time. Involves frequent contact with staff, patients and the public and may be stressful at times.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment. Manual dexterity for using a calculator and computer keyboard.
