ABOUT THE POSITION
Manage the day-to-day operations of workers who confirm and record the receipt of shipments, prepare items for shipping, and load and unload trucks.
Deliverables & Responsibilities
- Manages day to day operations of the warehouse.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures governing the receipt, storage, and distribution of materials, equipment, and/or supplies.
- Supports the organization's supply chain strategy through maintenance of appropriate inventory levels and timely distribution of goods.
- Tracks inventory by performing physical counts and verifying information against warehousing systems.
- Communicates job expectations and coaches’ warehouse employees.
- Determines staffing levels and hours.
- Verifies warehouse labor hours weekly. Approves warehouse employee vacation requests. Submits approved labor hours to payroll.
- Arranges appropriate shipping methods for all orders from the parts sales department.
- Identify areas of improvement in the warehouse
- Works with other departments to ensure timely receipt of parts needed for shipping.
- Prepares bills of lading for shipments, ensures accuracy of items being shipped.
- Works with Jerome Ave to get paperwork required for foreign shipments.
- Traces lost shipments, initiates proof of delivery documents.
- Files claims for lost or damaged freight.
- Processes received purchase orders in ERP.
- Researches any discrepancies between what has been received and what is on Astec’s purchase order.
- Maintains and improves the label program for purchased parts being issued to the production area.
- Maintain a basic cycle count program for the purchased parts warehouse.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies.
- Occasionally lead or participate in groups to improve site KPIs.
- Take a leading role in our initiative to ship to customers within 24 hours of receiving an order.
- Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Enforce and adhere to Astec safety rules and regulations.
To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:
- BS degree in logistics, supply chain management or business administration or equivalent experience or knowledge.
- 6 years of experience required.
- Experience operating forklift and loading/unloading trucks preferred.
- Computer experience required, particularly the ability to use a mouse and locate and open/close program files. Must have knowledge of Epicor ERP system and Microsoft Office Suite. Must be dependable, dedicated to getting the job done correctly, and use time wisely.
- Adept at problem-solving. Anticipates problems before they occur. Implements corrective actions. Adaptable to new situations. Open to changes and new ideas.
- Ability to satisfactorily work alone and willingness to work with others respectfully and professionally in a team environment, with reasonable instructions, training and supervision.
- Ability to communicate, express needs, and ask questions.
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.

Manufacturing Environment
Shop manufacturing environment exposures include exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools and equipment, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, motorized vehicles, welding and machining operations, outside weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electric shock. The employee may occasionally be exposed to varying levels of dirt, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, very warm and/or very chilly temperatures. The noise level in the shop can be very loud at times consistent with an industrial assembly facility and may require hearing protection.
