ABOUT THE POSITION
The Environmental Compliance Engineer is responsible for assisting end users of equipment from the IPS group of products with environmental regulatory compliance related projects, including assistance with air permitting and providing expert testimony during various types of public hearings. This position will also work closely with the Product Manager – Sustainability to ensure equipment designed by the IPS Group can meet all applicable environmental regulations based on the category of product – asphalt plants, concrete plants, fluid heating / storage systems, and combustion products.
Key Deliverables
Perform technical analyses and calculations associated with equipment environmental performance to understand, quantify, and communicate how the changes to our products or processes will improve product performance.
Work closely with equipment end users to provide required pertinent technical documentation and guidance during the equipment permitting process.
Work closely with Sales, Engineering, and Service to advise on applicable environmental regulations and compliance requirements for various equipment within the IPS Group’s Product Portfolio.
Provide expert testimony on emissions, permitting, and equipment operation in various settings to support equipment within the IPS Group’s Product Portfolio.
Key Activities & Responsibilities
Development of emission rate calculators, spreadsheets, and databases for equipment operational performance and environmental compliance evaluation
Provide permitting and compliance technical documentation (including calculations) for asphalt, concrete, and industrial facility customers as well as assist with permit application forms.
Development of database to track and evaluate applicable regulatory requirements for asphalt, concrete, and industrial facility customers domestically and internationally.
Negotiate permitting requirements and resolve compliance issues on behalf of asphalt plant, concrete plant, and industrial facility customers with regulatory agencies.
Develop technical documents to address environmental issues concerning equipment operation for distribution to Sales staff, Service personnel, customers, and regulators.
Interface with contracted environmental services for customer compliance activities such as permitting, modeling, and stack testing.
Technical presentations on equipment operation and environmental compliance at public hearings, customer schools, sales meetings, equipment association meetings.
Field facility emission data acquisition and evaluation to identify and address potential regulatory compliance issues.
To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are :
A technical degree in engineering, physics, chemistry, engineering technology, sustainability, or a related technical field is highly preferred.
A minimum of three years of career experience in a technology development, sustainability, product management, engineering, or sales roles is preferred.
Understanding of environmental regulatory requirements and permitting process for industrial equipment.
Understanding of equipment operation relative to emission generation and reduction methodologies.
Demonstrated communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
Proven strong interpersonal skills to communicate project plans, goals, and objectives.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is required
Must be able to solve problems at both a strategic and tactical level.
Demonstrated track record of working with internal / external customers to understand requirements and develop appropriate solutions is a plus.
Must be able to work effectively as a member of a cross-functional team.
Must be able to organize and manage multiple projects and priorities.
Must be able to plan strategically and lead the execution of the strategy.
Ability to speak publicly and quickly make frequent and professional PowerPoint presentations is required.
Ability to easily deal with data by manipulating spreadsheets to perform calculations and identify trends in large, complex data sets
Ability to write reports and business correspondence is required.
