The Executive Office of Education’s Information Technology Group (EOE IT) strives to connect and empower communities of learners, from birth to college to the workforce, by building and supporting innovative systems that facilitate positive outcomes for all. EOE IT is seeking a dynamic and versatile Senior Business Analyst to join our team. This role will primarily involve engaging in business analysis activities to gather requirements, analyze processes, and define solutions. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of business analysis with experience in wireframing (visual representation, UX design, iterative design, and prototyping). Familiarity with Massachusetts state and community colleges, college enrollment process, and financial aid process is preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Business Analysis:
- Collaborate with product owners and other business stakeholders to elicit, analyze, and document business requirements.
- Conduct interviews, workshops, and meetings to gather and validate requirements.
- Translate business needs into functional specifications and user stories.
- Create and maintain documentation such as process flows, use cases, and business rules in Confluence and SharePoint.
- Assist in the development of wireframes and prototypes.
- Log and manage tasks, user stories, and defects in Jira.
- Work closely with the EOE IT managers, architects and developers to ensure clear understanding of requirements and verify fixes for defects.
- Establish clear acceptance criteria for features.
- Perform usability testing to ensure user interface designs meet user needs.
- Document and track defects and participate in defect triage meetings.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and methodologies across EOE IT.
- Foster a collaborative and positive team environment where empathy for and responsiveness to business stakeholders is key.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, information systems, computer science, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a business analyst and quality assurance roles, preferably within the higher education sector.
- Proven experience in gathering business requirements, analyzing business processes, and supporting the implementation of IT solutions.
- Strong business analysis skills with the ability to gather, analyze, and document business requirements. Experience in conducting stakeholder interviews, workshops, and requirement prioritization.
- Solid understanding of quality assurance principles and methodologies, with experience in creating test plans, test cases, and executing tests. Familiarity with testing tools and processes.
- Understanding of data models, data migration processes, and data integrity best practices. Experience in data cleansing, data loading, and managing data relationships
- Familiarity with data integration patterns, APIs, and middleware platforms for integrating applications with other systems such as ERP, marketing automation, or legacy systems.
- Ability to provide user training and support for applications, including creating documentation, conducting training sessions, and addressing user inquiries and issues.
- Experience working in Agile environments, participating in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives. Ability to adapt to changing requirements and priorities in iterative development cycles.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including business stakeholders, developers, testers, and project managers. Ability to translate technical concepts into non-technical language and vice versa.
- Proficiency in Jira and M365 productivity software.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of higher education systems and processes (e.g., Student Information Systems (SIS), Learning Management Systems (LMS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), etc.).
- Proficiency in wireframing tools such as Figma or similar software.
- Certification in Business Analysis (e.g., CBAP) or Quality Assurance (e.g., ISTQB).
- Knowledge of SQL or other database querying languages.
