POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Grant Writer is responsible for researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals to secure funding that supports Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation’s mission, programs, and operations. This position will work closely with leadership and program teams to identify funding needs, develop grant narratives, and manage the proposal submission process. The Grant Writer plays a critical role in sustaining and expanding our funding streams, building relationships with grant-making entities, and aligning proposals with our organizational goals and priorities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Grant Research & Identification: Conduct in-depth research to identify grant opportunities that align with the organization’s mission, goals, and project needs.
- Proposal Development & Writing: Write and develop compelling grant proposals, including narratives, budgets, and supporting documentation, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance with all guidelines.
- Grant Management: Manage the full lifecycle of grant applications from concept to submission, including coordinating with internal stakeholders for required information and ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Relationship Building: Build and maintain relationships with grantors, foundations, and other funding sources to enhance the organization’s credibility and visibility.
- Data Collection & Reporting: Work with program and finance teams to collect data and evaluate program outcomes for reporting purposes, and submit timely progress reports to funders as required.
- Process Improvement: Develop and maintain grant templates, tracking systems, and other tools to streamline the grant writing and management process.
- Collaborative Support: Assist in developing and executing the organization’s fundraising strategy and contribute to team efforts in achieving fundraising goals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of grant writing experience, preferably with public safety, community development, or nonprofit organizations, and a proven track record of securing grants.
- Writing Skills: Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, persuasive, and well-organized grant narratives.
- Analytical Skills: Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and translate it into accessible, impactful language.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail, ensuring that proposals are complete, polished, and error-free.
- Organizational Skills: Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and work with a diverse team.
- Proficiency in Grant Software: Familiarity with grant management tools such as Instrumentl or GrantHub, and proficiency in Google Workspace Suite.
- Passion for Mission: Demonstrated commitment to supporting the well-being and operational excellence of first responders.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
This role reports directly to the Director of Development and works collaboratively with program managers and the leadership team.
SALARY:
- Range: $50,000 to $60,000, commensurate with education and experience.
