The Thrift Driver role is essential to our ministry by driving established routes to pick up and transport donated goods, along with assisting with daily driving needs for Donation Receiving.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinates upkeep and maintenance of the trucks, including keeping both the interior and exterior clean and serviced.
- Ensures vehicles are serviced according to Atlanta Mission’s service schedule and procedures.
- Maintains mileage logs per Atlanta Mission procedures
- Reports any problems immediately to the Facilities Administrator
- Maintains a safe vehicle and work environment while protecting Atlanta Mission's assets
- Coordinates with the Call Center Manager (dispatch), thrift store managers, Distribution Center staff, and/or Atlanta Mission staff to schedule pickups and deliveries of donated merchandise.
- Maintains communication and cooperation among all parties to ensure positive public relations and effective problem resolution.
- Ensures all pickups are completed promptly. Communicates issues with the Call Center Manager to provide a quality customer service experience for donors.
- Makes deliveries as assigned.
- Makes work-related decisions in the best interest of Atlanta Mission.
- Ensures appropriate care is taken while handling merchandise and that safety is prioritized at all times. Additionally, ensures proper care is taken while in the donor’s home and/or property to guarantee a quality customer service experience.
- Follows established policies and exercises discretion in responding to donations that may not be sellable or usable, avoiding unnecessary disposal costs.
- Channels merchandise promptly to maximize value for Atlanta Mission.
- Coordinates and assists in loading and unloading merchandise to and from vehicles.
- Assists in the operation of the thrift store and/or Distribution Center while waiting for trucks or when no pickups are scheduled.
- Completes donation receipts according to Atlanta Mission procedures.
- Coordinates with site representatives regarding daily transportation needs.

Position Requirements:
- Must be able to plan routes and read a map.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Must be able to maneuver large vehicles in tight spaces and in heavy traffic
- A valid Georgia driver’s license, the ability to be insured on company policy required, and the ability to pass the DOT certification test
Physical Requirements:
- Must have the ability to remain in a stationary position (standing, sitting and/or walking)
- Must have the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Must be able to communicate accurate information
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 100lbs
- Must have peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Constant travel in the North East Georgia area or Atlanta area needed
