About the Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center

The Atlantic Council's nonpartisan Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center (AALAC) broadens understanding of regional transformations while demonstrating the significance of Latin America and the Caribbean in a rapidly changing world. The center focuses on pressing political, economic, and strategic issues that define the region's trajectory, proposing constructive, results-oriented solutions to inform public-sector, business, and multilateral action with the goal of a more prosperous future for the Americas. AALAC builds consensus for action in advancing innovative policy perspectives and prioritizes impact across geographic priorities - including Argentina, Brazil, Central America, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Venezuela and through its Caribbean Initiative - alongside thematic areas that incorporate global Atlantic Council expertise: investment promotion, commercial ties, economic development, transnational criminal organizations, energy security, technology, democratic institutions, and mitigating Chinese presence.

Overview of the Role

This Deputy Director role is for a talented, entrepreneurial development leader and manager to help shape the work of the Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center (AALAC) and its business development goals. The Deputy Director will work with the AALAC Vice President to serve as the Center's business development lead, oversee the Center's corporate opportunities, manage the Center's engagements with Capitol Hill, and determine new areas of financial growth for the center based on opportunities for public policy impact and market demand. The individual must be a strong leader, innovative, nimble, and effective in developing partnerships with business, governments, funders, and other stakeholders. The Deputy Director will work with a team of experts and program managers, helping implement projects, mentor staff, and inspire initiatives.

This position will drive strategic growth and policy initiatives across key areas of focus, contributing to the Center's overall mission. The Deputy Director will create annual fundraising plans for the Center's existing lines of work and conceptualize new development opportunities for emerging AALAC areas, in coordination with the Vice President. The Deputy Director will create and implement a plan for stewardship of prospective donors, oversee fundraising operations, and manage internal fundraising records with staff support to continue the Center's relevance and preeminence. A particular emphasis will be placed on opportunities to expand our work focused on Mexico. As well, the position will manage all reporting requirements for external donors including ensuring compliance with financial regulations and grant management.

The Deputy Director should be passionate about finding solutions to the hemisphere's most urgent challenges, have a background in how to turn ideas into action, and be an expert in engaging with a variety of stakeholders. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, resourceful, solutions-oriented, and focused on innovating in how to achieve the growth of AALAC. This position requires background as a successful and accomplished manager with a track record of fostering staff development and working collaboratively across teams.

The Deputy Director will represent the Center, as needed, at external events. The ideal candidate will think creatively about issues in the Latin America and Caribbean region and contribute to the design of programs and project proposals for fundraising.

This position is based in our Washington, DC, headquarters, requiring a minimum of 4 days per week in office. The Atlantic Council offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience, education, and organizational equity, with offers from $105,000 to $115,000. Applications submitted by March 21, 2025, will be prioritized for consideration.

Job Responsibilities

  • Corporate Partnerships: The Deputy Director will oversee the Center's corporate opportunities, ensuring benefits match market demands, overseeing the relationships with current partners, finding new opportunities for engagement, and leading annual renewals. A particular focus will be placed on our partnership opportunities regarding Mexico.

  • Internal Development Planning: Work with the Vice President and program leads to provide guidance on and implement the development plan for AALAC. This includes establishing and overseeing donor stewardship strategy, creating annual fundraising goals per portfolio while maintaining complete records of relationships, results, and campaign activities using Salesforce. • Business Operations: Oversee and sign off on all project proposals prior to Vice President approval including programmatic budgets, gift agreements, and invoicing. Manage all reporting requirements for external donors including ensuring compliance with financial regulations and grant management.
