Seeking a NetSuite Accountant with expertise in benefits and payroll-related accounting, accrual accounting, GAAP, accounting reconciliations, and general ledger management. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing financial operations with a focus on benefits, payroll, and general accounting functions using NetSuite ERP software.
Key Responsibilities:
- Benefits & Payroll Accounting:
- Oversee payroll accounting processes, ensuring accurate recording of wages, bonuses, and deductions within NetSuite.
- Ensure benefits (healthcare, retirement plans, etc.) are properly accounted for and recorded in compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.
- Monitor and reconcile payroll-related accounts, including tax liabilities, benefit liabilities, and accruals.
- Work closely with HR and Benefits teams to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll and employee benefits transactions.
Accrual Accounting:
- Manage accrual accounting processes, including recording accruals for payroll, benefits, and other expenses.
- Ensure that accruals are appropriately adjusted at month-end and year-end close to reflect accurate financial positions.
- Reconcile accruals and identify discrepancies, ensuring that all entries align with financial reporting timelines.
General Accounting & GL Management:
- Maintain and manage the general ledger (GL) by reviewing and posting journal entries and ensuring proper classification of transactions.
- Perform month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Monitor and maintain chart of accounts, ensuring accuracy in all financial records within NetSuite.
Accounting Reconciliations:
- Perform monthly and quarterly reconciliations for all financial accounts, including payroll, benefits, and other accruals, ensuring all discrepancies are investigated and resolved.
- Prepare reconciliations for balance sheet accounts, including asset and liability accounts related to payroll and benefits.
- Assist in identifying areas for improvement in reconciliation processes and implement best practices.
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and reports for management, ensuring compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide insights into payroll and benefits-related expenses.
- Support management in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, particularly related to payroll and benefits costs.
NetSuite System Management:
- Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for NetSuite ERP in accounting functions, ensuring the system is configured correctly for payroll, benefits, and general ledger processes.
- Implement and optimize relevant NetSuite modules and features for financial accounting.
- Troubleshoot issues within NetSuite and collaborate with IT or consultants to resolve them promptly.
Compliance & Internal Controls:
- Ensure compliance with all accounting regulations, tax laws, and company policies, particularly related to payroll and benefits.
- Assist with the preparation for audits and provide necessary documentation and explanations during audits.
- Maintain internal controls and ensure financial data accuracy and security within NetSuite.
Collaboration & Support:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams such as HR, Benefits, and Finance to ensure alignment of accounting practices across payroll and benefits.
- Provide support and training to junior accounting staff regarding NetSuite processes and payroll/benefits-related accounting.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA or other professional accounting certification is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting, with specific experience in payroll and benefits accounting, accrual accounting, and GL management.
- At least 2-3 years of hands-on experience with NetSuite ERP software, specifically in payroll, benefits, and general ledger functions.
Skills:
- Expertise in payroll accounting and benefits accounting.
- Strong knowledge of accrual accounting principles and practices.
- Advanced understanding of GAAP and its application to payroll, benefits, and general accounting.
- Solid experience with general ledger management and month-end close processes.
- Proficiency in accounting reconciliations and troubleshooting discrepancies.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to analyze financial data and provide actionable insights.
Technical Competencies:
- Advanced proficiency in NetSuite ERP, including payroll, benefits, and accounting modules.
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, v-lookup, financial modeling).
- Familiarity with additional financial systems or tools is a plus (e.g., Bill.com, Adaptive Insights).
