Assistant Director of Food and Beverage

We are seeking a dedicated, hands-on Assistant Director of Food and Beverage to support the overall dining program and help lead our team with heart, professionalism, and high standards.

Full-time status: Must be available for a flexible schedule built to accommodate the demands of the department.

Position Summary: The Assistant Director of Food and Beverage plays a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our Food Service Department. This position works closely with the Director to ensure residents consistently receive nutritious, well-prepared meals in an inviting dining environment. The Assistant Director helps supervise staff, uphold quality and sanitation standards, and contribute to a positive and efficient workplace.

  • Assist in ensuring all meals are prepared and served in accordance with nutrition, taste, and presentation standards.
  • Support departmental compliance with sanitation, safety, and production standards, including those set by local and state health authorities.
  • Collaborate with the Director on menu planning, purchasing, inventory management, and vendor relationships.
  • Supervise and support front-of-house and back-of-house staff in both the main dining room and Health Center dining areas.
  • Contribute to hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and ongoing training of food and beverage staff.
  • Help monitor and maintain departmental budgets, financial reports, and inventory systems.
  • Act as a liaison between residents and the Food and Beverage team, addressing dining concerns or special dietary needs.
  • Participate in quality assurance, staff performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Assist with developing and delivering in-service training programs to meet regulatory and quality improvement goals.
  • Serve as acting Director in their absence, maintaining all departmental functions and communication with administration.

 

Education and/or Experience: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, culinary arts, or a related field; minimum 3–5 years of experience in food service management, preferably in a senior living, healthcare, or hospitality setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 5 years supervisory experience.

  • Proficiency in budgeting, scheduling, and inventory management.
  • Knowledge of nutrition, food safety, sanitation regulations, and special dietary needs.
  • Proficient in the use of software applications including Microsoft Office (Teams, Excel, Word).
  • Ability to work with, lead, manage, and mentor a diverse team.
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills.
  • Must be ServSafe certified within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Must be a team player who is willing to give and receive effective feedback.
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure and multi-task.
  • Solution oriented with problem solving and organization skills. Self-motivated.
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Positive attitude.
