Job Description
Starting pay is $ 17 hr. Experience and education will be taken in consideration for higher rateRole and ResponsibilitiesPrep construction sites by clearing obstacles and hazards
Assembling and disassembling temporary structures
Manage traffic movement and traffic control in the construction area
Cleaning and removing debris and waste materials from or near the construction site
Loading and unloading materials and supplies
Removing, filling, and/or compacting asphalt with use of shovels, rakes and hand compactor
Following supervisor’s instructions
Assist equipment operators, and other skilled craftspeople when necessary
Communicate actions with crew members using hand or audio signals
Discuss plans and goals for the day's work with supervisor and determine the best and safest method for completing the assigned work
General duties associated with asphalt paving, patching, milling or prep crews
Maintain equipment in proper operating condition by performing simple preventive maintenance tasks and/or making minor repairs
Inspect equipment prior to use to ensure that it is in proper operating condition
Mentor and teach colleagues with less experience
Attend training and safety meetings
Observe construction sites for obstacles that may compromise job safety and/or production
Follow site specifications and operations plans
Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations.Qualifications and Education RequirementsDetail-oriented with excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines
Ability to quickly process information and make decisions
Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks: organizational, problem-prevention and problem-solving skills
Dependable and able to work independently with little supervision as well as with a team of individuals
Ability to multitask and function well in a fast-paced environment
Basic understanding of construction procedures, OSHA guidelines and construction equipment, including safe operating practices and signs of maintenance issues
Must be 18 years of age or older
Must have reliable transportation
Must have the ability to travel extensively with periods of staying away from home
Must have the ability to work extended hours as required by the workload
Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time
Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in all types of terrain
Able to meet all physical requirements
Able to work around exposures to high levels of noise, odors, gasses, dust, grease and a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites
Able to work in extreme temperatures, in confined spaces, high places, in excavated areas, and near heavy equipment and moving machinery
This is a full-time position which will typically involve 50 hours a week.
Preferred Experience
- Previous asphalt construction experience
- Class A CDL
- Flagger/Traffic control experience
