What Youll Do
Learning and Development
- Participate in structured training and mentorship to develop skills as a special education teacher
- Observe and collaborate with experienced educators to learn effective teaching strategies
- Engage actively in feedback sessions and professional development opportunities
Student Support
- Implement instructional materials and activities under the guidance of the special education teacher
- Support students during classroom transitions and activities, promoting independence and self-advocacy
- Provide one-on-one and small-group assistance to students per prepared lessons from the special education teacher
Classroom Management
- Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and organized learning environment
- Assist with applying behavior management strategies to meet a diverse set of student needs
- Ensure students are supervised at all times and foster a positive classroom culture
Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Implementation
- Collaborate with the special education team to appropriately implement students' IEPs
- Assist the primary teacher with collecting and documenting data to accurately track progress toward IEP goals
- Observe IEP meetings and learn effective practices pertaining to student progress and support plans
Communication and Collaboration
- Build meaningful relationships with students, families, and staff to support student success
- Maintain open communication with teachers and administrators regarding student progress and/or concerns
- Work as part of a team to implement prescribed strategies that address diverse learning needs
Compensation & Schedule
- Salaried/Exempt
- Annual Salary: $38,500
- Full Time; Monday Friday; Approximately 7:45 AM - 4:00 PM; Occasional evenings and weekends as needed

Annual Calendar and Start Date
- 209* work days per academic year
- Start Date: As Soon as Possible
- Prorated if the employee's start date is after July 1st.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Must have a Bachelor's degree, preferably in education or special education
- Be committed to obtaining alternative special education licensure within 12 months of hire
- Enrollment in the alternative licensure program is required by 30 days after hire
- Must be able to successfully pass required background screening
- Possess a sincere desire to become a full-time licensed special education teacher with Atlas after completing this one-year fellowship
- Demonstrate and foster a growth mindset with a genuine drive to succeed
- Have the ability to take feedback well and quickly implement changes from mentor teachers and instructional coaches
- Demonstrated maturity, humility, self-reflection, and a strong work ethic
- Ability to maintain a calm, professional demeanor in the face of competing demands and external pressures

- Exhibited resilience and a steadfast commitment to mastering the teaching craft, ensuring a meaningful and lasting impact on our students' futures
- Prior teaching experience with low-income, minority, or historically underachieving students
- Bilingual; English & Spanish
Essential Job Functions
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

- Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed
