What are the responsibilities and job description for the Benefits Administrator position at Atlas Search?
Our client is one of the largest pension funds in NYC, providing eligible NYC educators with retirement and disability benefits. They are currently seeking a highly skilled Benefits Administrator with a strong background in mathematics and calculations. This individual will play a pivotal role in facilitating the efficient handling of work list items within the Member Status, Terminations, and Retirement departments. This is a long-term contract assignment, and they are eager to fill the position promptly.
Responsibilities:
- Enter service information in the system from forms completed by Employers.
- Process retirement and revisions and finalize benefit calculations.
- Validate vesting and key milestone dates including pay dates.
- Verify vacation adjustments.
- Review members’ case files for information.
- Perform data entry of important demographic information of members and beneficiaries.
- Review eligibility for processing of events.
- Update transfer-in, transferred contributor, and leave.
- Review cases for eligibility of key milestones for the purposes of processing refunds.
- Request additional documentation for members.
- Process refunds.
- Process requests from backlog list – withdrawals and transfer-out requests.
- Process Buyback requests and other benefit claims from the backlog list.
- Maintain a working knowledge of all service rules and legislations.
Requirements & Competencies
- Ability to work on AS400 based system as well as browser based systems.
- Ability to perform calculations.
- Excellent data entry skills and demonstrated ability to transfer data from scanned images to system.
- Knowledge of pension systems and processing/calculating of benefits for various groups of members preferred.
- Experience in all Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office products.
