Job Profile Summary
The Technician II, NOC manages troubleshooting efforts, schedules maintenance activities, and ensures the safety of Commnet's field operations groups. Technicians will also coordinate with other internal teams to proactively address service degradations on the network and serve as an escalation point for first level NOC Technicians. Technician IIs will be exposed to 10 technology vendors in support of the network and are expected to be able to act autonomously. The NOC Technician II practices extreme ownership, can share knowledge with their peers, create accurate network documentation, and assist in training new NOC Technicians.
Duties and Responsibilities (included but not limited to) :
- Monitor the backhaul network for service failures and degradation. This includes fiber, copper, microwave, and T1 circuits. Monitor core ring circuits and equipment for service failures and degradation. Perform advanced fix actions as indicated prior to escalation.
- Monitor RAN and fixed wireless components for service failures and degradation. Perform advanced fix actions in attempts to resolve prior to escalation.
- Work in ambiguous situations, using experience and / or documentation, to find solutions to problems.
- Act as an escalation point for the team and an intermediary between other technical groups.
- Perform or assist other internal teams with overnight change activities, ensuring all pre and post checks are completed and well documented. Assist other Network Operations teams with overnight network changes, including router upgrades or smaller network configuration changes.
- Perform collaborative tier 2 network technical support including advanced troubleshooting of packet loss, MTU, and other networking issues.
- Train new NOC Technicians up to the expected level of proficiency.
- Other duties as assigned.
