What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Manager position at Atria Management Company?
The Payroll Manager is responsible for managing the daily payroll processing for a multi-national company's weekly and bi-weekly pay cycles. The Payroll Manager is also responsible for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, including tax filings and compliance documentation.
The ideal candidate for this role has a strong background in payroll and payroll taxes. They enjoy the technical side of payroll, are highly organized, and are comfortable leading a small team.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and update payroll policy and procedures.
- Audit and approve payment processing.
- Assist communities and department management with payroll needs.
- Assist Payroll staff with questions and processes to help develop staff’s Payroll skills.
- Assist with quarter and year-end processing, including the generation of W2 and T4 reporting.
- Work with Accounting team on unclaimed wage reporting.
- Develop queries for audit and reporting purposes.
- Audit Payroll reports and provide approval for payroll processing upon verification of accuracy.
- Approve invoices from payroll processing vendor(s), working with them to assure accuracy and timeliness of payroll processing and reporting.
- Review current payroll processes, assuring they maintain compliance with all applicable laws/guidance and drive improvements to processes.
- May perform other duties as needed and/or assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field and three (3) or more years of relevant work experience required.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable
- Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office suite applications, such as Outlook. The ability to learn and work within new systems.
- Familiarity with payroll processing software, ADP, Equifax, Ceridian, Kronos, and Peoplesoft experience a plus.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Strong understanding of state and federal requirements for both payroll and tax
- Certified Payroll Professional designation preferred.
