What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health and Safety Coordinator position at ATS Corporation?
The role of the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Coordinator is to ensure division conformance and management of divisional Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) handbook, centered compliance to applicable HSE regulations as well as industry best practices to ensure division health, safety, and environment management is administered through policies, training, and governance oversight. Assists in the development and implementation of safety program components to prevent or correct unsafe environmental working conditions and ensure compliance to safety standards. This ATS facility has a 8 years no lost time safety record!
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Co-chair the Joint, Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) and follow through on all action items.
- Accountable to conduct or arrange to have conducted safety related training for all employees. Coordination of all classroom training events.
- Arrange and monitor audiometric testing for employees. Manage tracking of results and divisional record-keeping.
- Manage industrial hygiene monitoring and keep records.
- Ensure all fire safety regulations are followed.
- Coordinate vendor support for first aid and trauma kit replenishment and maintenance.
- Assist in the development of alternate methods to Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) and authorizes personnel to execute alternate methods.
- Contractor management – full management of this process and coordination of the master contractor list, to include qualification of contractors and maintenance of the required documentation for the program.
- OSHA 300 log management and reporting.
- Incident and near miss management.
- Manage the safety data sheet (SDS) documents.
- Coordinate and perform facility inspections.
- Management of the safety observation program.
- Manage the Emergency Response Team (ERT).
- Ensure appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is available and used when needed.
- Actively participate in regional and global HSE meetings and conferences.
- Coordination with corporate HSE for all global HSE requirements.
- Manage the internal safety audit program and perform safety audits.
- Global Standards Audit preparation and audit corrective action coordination.
- Regulatory Standards Audit preparation and corrective action coordination.
- Conduct new employee safety orientation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates degree or equivalent experience and certifications in related Health, Safety, and Environment fields within a manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety strongly preferred.
- Department of Transportation (DOT) certificate, OSHA 501 certificate and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) strongly preferred.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a manufacturing, custom equipment environment, preferably in international markets.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in occupational safety or related.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to successfully research and resolve safety issues and concerns in an accurate, thorough and timely matter with minimal assistance.
- Individual must have an ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with people at all levels of the organization, both verbally and in written form.
- Computer knowledgeable with such programs as Microsoft Office.
- Must be hands-on and must be able to meet deadlines for his or her responsibilities either directly or indirectly.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
- The employee may be required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
- Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert up to 25 pounds of force frequently.
- Visual acuity – Normal requirements for reading written instructions and computer screens.
- Hearing ability – Normal requirements for understanding verbal instructions.
- Working conditions – The employee is subject to exposure to high noise levels and/or physical hazards when working on the manufacturing floor.
- Capable of wearing appropriate related PPE for extended periods of time.
