Director of the Network Program (Grades 9-12 Public Day Program)
The Network is a DESE approved Public Day program within Attleboro Public Schools. The program is designed for students with academic/social/emotional/behavioral challenges which have hindered their success in a public school setting. A high staff to student ratio provides a structured learning environment. Students receive close monitoring, crisis intervention, and coordination with outside agency providers. The goals of the program are to develop and support the student’s ability to generalize and maintain behavior in various environments, and improve self-management and organizational skills, coping skills, self-advocacy skills, and relationship building skills. In addition, the program supports consistent attendance, successful completion of supported transition and vocational experiences, and coursework
QUALIFICATIONS:
o MA Certification as required for position (Special Education Administrator, Director)
o Masters Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in special education or
related field.
o Successful experience as an administrator in the High School level preferred.
o Experience with therapeutic supports, counselling preferred.
o Experience with Restorative practices and school, class, and individual reinforcement
systems.
JOB GOAL/PURPOSE: Under the general supervision of the Director of Special Education, provides leadership and supervision in administering the educational program of the Network Public Day Program.
SUPERVISES: Program Staff
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
o To provide leadership in program development and improvement, as well as in professional staff development.
o Assists in the development and administration of school programs consistent with school district goals and objectives.
o Provides leadership and direction to staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of educational programs, including academic, social emotional, and behavioral.
o Promotes a school environment that is safe and conducive to individualized instruction, and staff and student learning.
o Prepares class schedules, master schedules, and family/community engagement activities.
o Assists in ensuring that Attleboro Public Schools policies and procedures are implemented.
o Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
o Encourages staff to continue to grow professionally and to experiment with new approaches or strategies..
o Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and works with teaching staff to modify curriculum, methodologies, and performance criteria to meet students' IEP needs.
o Assists in the recruitment and selection of employees, the proper maintenance of employee personnel files, the administration of collective bargaining agreements, corrective action, and other human resource issues.
o Involves staff in the evaluation of the program and the planning of new programs based on student needs.
o Acts as the primary liaison with parents/guardians, special education administrators, high school staff, and community partnerships.
o Responsible for working with the Team Facilitator to coordinate and plan IEP Team meetings.
o Responsible for decisions made relative to student discipline and the execution of interventions designed to result in positive student outcomes.
o Supervises and evaluates teaching staff and other building employees in accordance with the school district's evaluation plan, and makes recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement and continued employment.
o Assists in the budgetary and financial affairs of the program consistent with school district policies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
o Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
o Knowledge of High school curriculum and concepts.
o Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation and staff supervision.
o Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
o Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding special education.
o Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
o Ability to develop and implement projects.
o Effective verbal and written communication skills.
o Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
o Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.
o Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth.
o Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
