Job Duties
This position reviews, evaluates, and responds to consumer inquiries and complaints submitted electronically or by hard copy. The Intake Specialist refers consumer inquiries and complaints within the jurisdiction of the Consumer Protection Section to the Section’s Dispute Resolution Unit, investigators, or attorneys as appropriate.
The Intake Specialist refers consumer inquiries and complaints not within the jurisdiction of the Consumer Protection Section to the appropriate local, state, or federal agency. The position provides consumer education and other information as may be appropriate, including information regarding consumer protection laws, other consumer protection agencies, and other resources.
The position conducts research regarding businesses, individuals, and other government agencies as may be necessary to determine the proper handling of consumer inquiries and complaints. The position prepares responses to Freedom of Information Act requests. In addition, the Intake Specialist provides back-up coverage for the Consumer Protection Hotline Call Center as needed. The position reports to the Manager of the Counseling, Intake and Referral Unit.
Minimum Qualifications
- Qualified candidates should possess strong oral and written communication skills;
- telephone communication skills;
- customer service skills;
- the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced,
- high-volume environment;
- knowledge of state and federal consumer protection laws;
- and knowledge of the handling of consumer complaints by local, state, and federal agencies.
- Proficiency using personal computers is required.
Additional Considerations
- Preferred candidates will possess a B.A. or B.S. college degree in business administration, public administration, political science, government, economics, or a related field; or the equivalent combination of experience, training, and education in consumer protection or regulatory enforcement.
- A solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and databases is preferred.
