CHILD NUTRITION PROGRAM ASSISTANT MANAGER - 187 CONTRACT DAYS
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Practical experience in the preparation and service of foods to large groups of people; school lunchroom experience preferred.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted.
- Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama Statutes and State Board of Education regulations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Extensive knowledge of the planning, preparation and service of a large variety of foods and the equipment and methods used in such preparation and service. Thorough knowledge of food values and nutrition; sanitation and safety practices; and the purchase and storage of food and non-food supplies. Ability to plan economical, nutritious and attractive meals which appeal to school age children. Ability to train and supervise subordinates. Ability to establish and maintain a favorable working relationship with vendors, teachers, and other school and county level personnel, subordinates and others. Ability to prepare and maintain various records and reports.

JOB GOAL
To assist in the efficient preparation and service of meals in the food service program for students and staff that are tasty, nutritious, attractive, clean, and appropriate for a quality education programs.
SUPERVISES: Assigned Personnel
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Expected work day: 7 hours
- Assist in the training, planning and supervision of CNP employees
- Serve as cashier at breakfast and lunch
- Complete an inventory of food and supplies
- Works in food preparation in proper portions
- Assist in the service of foods to students and staff
- Assure all students are served equally the require portions
- Assist in cleaning and sanitizing of serving and work areas, including dining tables & equipment
- Ability to read chemical product sheets and follow required safety procedures while using and cleaning equipment
- Read and follow recipes and instructions
- Ability to prepare food according to approved menu and recipe
- Ability to read and follow written & oral directions, and do simple mathematics
- Ability to work under pressure and time constraints
- Ability to think logically & systematically and learn technical skills of quantity food production, use and care of equipment
- Maintains cooler, freezer and storage areas in an orderly and sanitary condition
- Use food and supplies for school purposes and functions (Unauthorized food or supply use and/or removal from the school will be just cause for dismissal)
- Provide a friendly and respectful atmosphere for students, staff and guests
- Ability to use equipment, timers and/or controls
- Ability to use ingredient measuring and scaling equipment
- Capable of working in a cold or hot & humid kitchen environment
- Capable of standing for long periods of time on quarry or tile floors during food preparation and service
- Capable of using work surfaces 48" above the floor
- Capable of using floor cleaning equipment to sweep, mop and/or scrub as needed
- Ability to use food preparation equipment to dice, mix, cut chop fry, bake, steam, braise, boil and puree using required manufacturer's safety recommendations when in kitchen
- Ability to disassemble, clean and reassemble food preparation and cleaning equipment when in kitchen
- Ability to transfer extremely hot or cold food pans from the food preparation equipment to the serving line
- Ability to use a six foot step ladder for weekly cleaning of ventilation system
- Ability to be a safe food handler, free of diseases which may be transmitted by food
- Receive deliveries and check against purchase orders, using established procedures
- Show politeness and good manners in dealing with others
- Ability to be punctual, dependable and flexible
- Perform related duties as required, including duties at special meal functions
- Ability to push, carry and lift items up to 30#
- Ability to comply with CNP dress standards and local & state public health and sanitation standards
- Ability to push, move, and lift foods (hot & cold)
- Ability to empty 50 gallon trash receptacle in to school dumpster
- Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objections of this position
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system’s approved compensation plan.
Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
