JOB DESCRIPTION
ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER TUTOR
Reports to: Building Principal with district-level coordination and oversight by the Assistant Superintendent
Responsibilities:
This position is accountable for assisting English Language Learners within classrooms as well as in small group pull-out sessions to support their growth in English proficiency inclusive of social and academic language.
Essential Functions:
•assesses students to determine level of English proficiency
•works in collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent to determine applicable services
•plans and implements lessons to support the social and academic language growth of EL students when applicable
•collaborates with classroom teachers to shelter content for ELs
•assists in completing and disseminating progress reports and/or monitoring reports for all ELs
•communicates with parents when appropriate
•oversees the maintenance of student EL files in accordance with the requirements of the Department of Elementary and
Secondary Education
•coordinates and conducts the State required assessment of English proficiency and supports MCAS assessment for assigned ELs
•advocates on the behalf of the ELs for whom they are assigned
•collaborates with other EL Tutors within the district
•attends meetings involving ELs when requested by principal
•is knowledgeable and conforms to State and district regulations and guidelines
•performs other duties, as assigned

•State and Federal Laws regarding ELs
Qualifications:
•evidence of the ability to perform each essential function satisfactorily; the requirements listed above are representative of the
knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
•appropriate certification as designated by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
Education:
•Bachelor’s degree or higher
