AUBURN PUBLIC SCHOOLSJOB DESCRIPTIONENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER TUTORReports to: Building Principal with district-level coordination and oversight by the Assistant Superintendent Responsibilities: This position is accountable for assisting English Language Learners within classrooms as well as in small group pull-out sessions to support their growth in English proficiency inclusive of social and academic language.Essential Functions: assesses students to determine level of English proficiencyworks in collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent to determine applicable servicesplans and implements lessons to support the social and academic language growth of EL students when applicablecollaborates with classroom teachers to shelter content for ELsassists in completing and disseminating progress reports and/or monitoring reports for all ELscommunicates with parents when appropriateoversees the maintenance of student EL files in accordance with the requirements of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Educationcoordinates and conducts the State required assessment of English proficiency and supports MCAS assessment for assigned ELsadvocates on the behalf of the ELs for whom they are assignedcollaborates with other EL Tutors within the districtattends meetings involving ELs when requested by principalis knowledgeable and conforms to State and district regulations and guidelinesperforms other duties, as assignedAbility to: communicate effectively, both verbal and in writingestablish and maintain positive working relationships manage multiple tasksshelter instruction for ELsbe self-motivated and work independentlyKnowledge of: first language acquisitionsecond language acquisitionliteracy developmentstrategies for sheltering instruction for ELsdistrict policies, rules and regulations applicable to the school districteffective use of data to increase student achievementWIDA standards and levels of proficiencyState and Federal Laws regarding ELsQualifications: evidence of the ability to perform each essential function satisfactorily; the requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.appropriate certification as designated by the Department of Elementary and Secondary EducationEducation: Bachelors degree or higherPhysical Demands: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Approved by School Committee: January 2, 2013
