Job Description

Job Title: Facilities Director

Reports To: CEO

FLSA: Exempt

General Functions:

Under the direction of the CEO, the Facilities Director is responsible for managing the upkeep of the buildings and grounds of the Auburn YMCA and Camp-Y-Owasco. By serving as the primary risk manager of the organization, the Facilities Director assures that the organization maintains safe operations of physical spaces by adhering to OSHA and other safety standards.

Responsibilities/Functions/Duties/Tasks

The essential functions of this position at both the Auburn Y and Camp Y-Owasco include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervise and perform repairs and installations on systems and equipment such as piping, electrical equipment, air conditioning, boilers, controls, swimming pools, etc.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment and maintains accurate records; maintains a Preventative Maintenance program.
  • Oversee projects, contractors and vendor relationships and ensures that projects are completed on schedule, of acceptable quality and within budget expectation. May secure bids and make recommendations/selections of contractors.
  • Schedule projects in an efficient way so as to minimize their effect on operating programs; effectively communicates ongoing projects with affected programs.
  • Ensure the proper operation of all mechanical systems
  • Responsible for Camp Y-Owasco facilities
  • Ensure adherence to all safety and risk management procedures; ensures that staff receive safety training upon hire and periodically thereafter.
  • Work with outside agencies such as fire and health departments to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations related to facilities and grounds. Is the contact for OSHA inspections.
  • Update facility plans periodically. May develop annual plan of capital projects, consistent with the YMCA’s strategic plan.
  • Serve on assigned committees.
  • Ensure that exterior spaces are maintained; ensures that grounds and solid surfaces are safely maintained and cleared of snow / debris.
  • Create a system for maintenance requests and prioritizes repairs
  • Provide overall supervision and coordination of housekeeping services.
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct assigned staff and volunteers. Reviews and evaluates performance.
  • Purchase supplies and equipment
  • Develop and administer the annual departmental budget; Makes discretionary purchases within departmental budget.
  • Network with appropriate professionals and keeps abreast of applicable trends via literature and professional journals to improve organizational safety.
  • Attend required meetings, completes required training and responds to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Advise management on maintenance issues and projects as requested.
  • Participate with other members of management in the YMCA’s fundraising campaign.
  • Identifies and responds to child abuse according to YMCA Youth Protection Plan
  • Possesses excellent communication skills and embodies the values of the YMCA
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent;
  • 2 years of facilities managment or related field experience preferred
  • Certifications in HVAC systems repair and/or Electrical Certification preferred.
  • Must have solid knowledge of tools and equipment typically used in facilities.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of OSHA safety standards.
  • Must obtain CPO Certification within 6 months of employment and maintain certificate throughout employment.
  • Must be certified in CPR and maintain the certification throughout employment.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to use computer related technology proficiently

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with members, staff, program participants and parents.
  • The employee must be able to navigate an entire facility throughout the work shift and traverse a campground with uneven terrain throughout the day.
  • The employee must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work in elevated and confined spaces.

Work Environment:

  • The work environment is both in and outdoors. When indoors the environment is temperature controlled with normal to moderate noise levels. When working outside the environment is subject to weather extremes, subject to moderate noise and subject to mosquitoes and other insects.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
