Company: August Winter & Sons, one of the leading HVAC & Industrial mechanical contractors in Northeast Wisconsin has a permanent position available for a talented individual to oversee the application of ASME code work in our shop and field. We service clients in a variety of industries including Commercial, Healthcare, and Industrial applications that involve heating, cooling, process, structural and plumbing systems. Responsibilities:
- Monitor weld procedures or ASME code requirements, to verify compliance with company, customer, and code specifications
- Inspect welded sub-assemblies and assemblies at designated points of the manufacturing process for ASME hold points
- Maintain compliance to ASME weld procedures, materials traceability and all other ASME documentation requirements including shop traveler generation and various data reports. Point of contact for collaborating with AI inspectors for code jobs
- Perform visual and mechanical inspection of products in accordance with company drawings for the ASME BPVC, API, and D1.1, code requirements and/or engineering blueprints
- Participate in tri-annual review of ASME and NBIC stamp certifications
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and radiographs
- Partner with the Engineering Department to review (and correct) all shop fabrication drawings before they are released to the floor
- Collaborate with inventory, receiving, shipping, and packaging personnel to ensure compliance with company purchase orders and safe delivery of our customer’s product as it leaves our shop
- Prepare and maintain various ASME QC records both for fabricated equipment as well as ASME documentation for our welding personnel (e.g. WPS, PQR, and weld qualification testing, and continuity records) including responding to supplier/customer corrective action, and respond to non-conformances, either internally generated or customer generated
- Work closely with our production team, engineering, vendors and project managers to review quality problems and ensure problem-free production
- Support[TG1] [TG2] the field and shop floor to successfully perform their functions
- Determining the causes of product defects and reworks
- Verifying testing equipment is calibrated correctly
- Keeping measurement equipment operating accurately by following calibration requirements and calling for repairs
Requirements (Experience / Education / General):
- Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering or technical degree from four-year college or university OR have at least 5 years’ experience in the following:
o API storage tanks
o ASME Section VIII, Div I pressure vessels
o ASME B31.1 and B31.3 piping
o Working with Quality systems, programs, audits and procedures
o Fabrication and / or manufacturing industries
- Must have a working understanding of ASME R, S, and U stamped requirements
- In-depth knowledge of ASME, API, and American Welding Society (AWS) codes
- Knowledgeable in ASME inspection process - incoming inspection, material certification and marking requirements and in-process inspection
- ASME knowledge in code sections for hydrostatic testing, and be able to generate ASME records (required data reports, shop travelers, etc.)
- Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering blueprints and verifying or adding weld symbols and finish callouts
- Capable of using measurement instruments, including pressure gauges, calipers, micrometers, and weld reinforcement gauges
- Ability to verify completeness[TG3] [TG4] and accuracy of the information recorded
- Ability to work, schedule and interact with Authorized ASME Inspections and present documents for their review, sign-off, etc.
- Possess a craftsman’s eye for cosmetically pleasing workmanship to meet our customers’ high expectations
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from project managers and departments including customers regarding testing procedures and results to resolve problems
- Must be a self-starter who has excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in relevant software such as Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Must be able to travel to jobsites located within and outside of Wisconsin as needed
- Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) is a plus
