Deputy Commissioner of Revenue - Tax Associate
STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Commissioner of Revenue’s Office is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Deputy Commissioner of Revenue (Tax Associate) who will provide quality customer service to Augusta County residents, county personnel, and outside customers; perform intermediate skilled administrative support assisting citizens; maintain files and records for the office; does related work as required. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Commissioner of the Revenue or Chief Deputy Commissioner of the Revenue.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrate regular, reliable attendance.
- Maintain proper assessments of individual personal property by means of a recognized pricing guide (JD Power) or a percentage of cost.
- Assist with processing new business license applications and yearly renewals.
- Assist citizens with minimal State Income Tax filings and questions.
- Process incoming and outgoing mail and email.
- Assist taxpayers with any returns required to be filed with our office.
- Answer the telephone; respond to written and oral inquires pertaining to all local taxes.
- Cooperate with the Treasurer’s office to assist taxpayers with accurate billing.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to operate modern office equipment; ability to work thoroughly, accurately, and effectively under deadlines; good oral and written communication; ability to perform in a high-paced, multi-task environment; ability to work as a team and individually; ability to handle difficult customers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in customer service, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Completion of a three-year in-house training program once hired.
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:
Conducts work in a sitting position; however, job requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and light lifting; interaction with internal and external customers, who are occasionally not cooperative. Communication covers confidential and sensitive information.
