DEPUTY COMMISSIONER OF THE REVENUE
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Performs responsible skilled clerical and technical work assisting in the operation of the Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue; does related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
Preparing and maintaining real and personal property tax records; administering programs; interpreting laws and ordinances; maintaining records and files; preparing reports; assisting the public.

➢ Assists citizens in person by telephone, etc. with resolving conflicts; conducting database queries and
completing applications.
➢ Files and assesses business and/or personal property for County and Town.
➢ Enters incomes taxes due, estimated taxes, and assessments into computer.
➢ Reviews deeds; prepares real estate transfers for verification.
➢ Assists taxpayers with state income tax returns; mails and sorts returns to Department of Taxation.
➢ Assists in the management of the numerous personal property databases; ensures accuracy of updates and maintenance of the DMV Book; reviews database updates of all atypical information and codes relative to their qualification for tax relief.
➢ Performs general office assistance tasks; answers telephone; opens mail; files.
➢ Reviews reports for mobile homes and duplicate assessment for vehicles.
➢ Performs related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
General knowledge of general laws and administration of policies governing real and personal property; thorough knowledge of modern office practices and of standard office and accounting equipment, including computer equipment; ability to prepare and maintain detailed financial records and reports; ability to make arithmetical
calculations quickly and accurately; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County officials, associates and the general public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience involving customer service.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently,
and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires kneeling, reaching, standing, fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating of machines, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
Starting salary $35,000
