What are the responsibilities and job description for the Meter Service Representative I position at Augusta-Richmond County?
To perform a variety of duties such as installing and removing meters, read meters to identify and perform minor maintenance on all equipment. Will conduct field service orders, including connect and disconnect services while determining if meters are functioning properly within the guidelines of policies, procedures, and local ordinances. Reports to the Meter Service Field Rep Supervisor or other designated person. Works with co-workers and the public to provide operational support and performs all other duties as assigned. THIS POSITION REQUIRES EVENING OVERTIME AND WORK IN ALL TYPES OF WEATHER CONDITIONS.
Experience: One (1) year of customer service experience, preferably in public works such as water service utility and/or one (1) year of experience in a position requiring mechanical skills.

- Respond to customer inquiries and complaints concerning utility service policies; make field disconnection of utility services for delinquent accounts, breach of contract, nonpayment, returned checks, change of occupancy, safety, and meter tampering.
- Connect and disconnect water services; make adjustments to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Performs minor maintenance on meters, including pulling meters from vacant establishments, meter change-outs, installing locks and seals, and repairing meter leaks.
- Ensures accurate meter operation including proper meter registration; report unusual situations involving meter conditions, defects, suspicious conditions or safety hazards; review and processes abnormal meter reading reports on a daily basis.
- Read meters on assigned routes and record readings; identify addresses for new water utility billing.
- Maintains vehicles, tools and equipment.
Experience: One (1) year of customer service experience, preferably in public works such as water service utility and/or one (1) year of experience in a position requiring mechanical skills.

- Basic customer service knowledge.
- Minimum knowledge of mechanical devices.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Experience using standard tools (wrenches, screwdriver shovels, etc.) and devices to lock and block meters, as well as operating a motor vehicle and a two-way radio.
- Ability to interact with the public calmly and clearly if called upon to discuss problems at the location.
- Ability to adapt to the policies of Augusta, Georgia, which governs the use of its fleet vehicles and equipment.
