Job Summary:
The Chemistry and Hematology Lab Technician will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely diagnostic testing by performing complex tests in both the chemistry and hematology sections of our laboratory. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, committed to quality, and dedicated to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment in a fast-paced setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Laboratory Testing & Analysis
- Perform Routine and Specialized Testing: Conduct a variety of chemical analyses (e.g., metabolic panels, enzyme assays) and hematological evaluations (e.g., complete blood counts, coagulation tests) using state-of-the-art equipment.
- Quality Control: Execute regular quality control checks and calibration of instruments to ensure test accuracy and reliability.
- Specimen Processing: Properly receive, label, and process specimens according to established protocols to minimize errors and contamination.
Data Management & Reporting
- Record Keeping: Accurately document test results, maintain lab logs, and ensure all data is stored in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Result Interpretation: Assist in the preliminary review and interpretation of test data, reporting any critical or unexpected results to the Laboratory Supervisor immediately.
Compliance & Safety
- Adherence to Protocols: Follow all laboratory protocols, safety guidelines, and SOPs to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
- Regulatory Standards: Ensure laboratory practices are in line with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Safety Measures: Participate in regular safety training sessions and implement best practices to mitigate risks associated with handling hazardous materials.
Equipment & Inventory Management
- Maintenance: Oversee the routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of laboratory equipment in coordination with technical support teams.
- Inventory Control: Monitor and manage laboratory supplies and reagents, placing orders as necessary to ensure uninterrupted workflow.
Team Collaboration & Communication
- Interdepartmental Coordination: Work with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to conduct testing and address any issues promptly.
- Team Support: Provide guidance and training to junior staff and new hires as required, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education:
- Minimum Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Certification or licensure as required by state and/or national standards is preferred (e.g., ASCP certification).
- Experience:
- 2 years of experience working in a clinical laboratory setting with exposure to both chemistry and hematology testing.
- Experience working with automated analyzers and laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of laboratory instrumentation, quality control procedures, and data interpretation.
- Proficient in troubleshooting and maintaining laboratory equipment.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and regulatory guidelines (CLIA, CAP, OSHA).
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
