What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Base Metals Trader position at Aurex Group?
We are partnered with a global trading house building a metals trading platform. We are seeking a highly driven and commercially minded Base Metals Trader to join their growing team in New York.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience trading concentrates and/or refined metals (Copper, Zinc, Lead, Aluminium, etc.) on a global basis, with strong exposure to the Americas market. You will be responsible for origination, P&L generation, logistics coordination, and maintaining strategic relationships with miners, smelters, industrial end users, and other counterparties.
Key Responsibilities
- Structure and execute physical base metal transactions (concentrates and/or refined)
- Build and maintain commercial relationships with producers, smelters, refiners, and end users
- Identify arbitrage and regional trading opportunities across North America, Latin America, and global markets
- Work closely with internal teams to manage logistics, shipping, documentation, and financing as part of the full trading lifecycle
- Work cross-functionally with risk, operations, and finance to ensure seamless execution
- Monitor market trends, supply/demand dynamics, and pricing to inform trading strategies
- Drive P&L growth through origination and optimization of the trade book
- Maintain awareness of regulatory and compliance standards in physical trade flows
Requirements
- Minimum 8-10 years experience in base metals trading (refined and/or concentrates)
- Demonstrated track record of commercial performance and P&L contribution
- Deep network of contacts across Americas and/or global metals markets
- Solid understanding of international trade logistics, Incoterms, and contract structuring
- Experience handling documentation and negotiation of off-take, spot, or long-term agreements
- Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to scale a book or build a desk from the ground up
- Experience at a trading house highly desirable
- Language skills a plus but not required
