Purpose:
The Organic Compliance Specialist provides key organic regulatory support, monitoring, auditing, compliance, review, and document control within the Organic Compliance Program (OCP) matrix for Aurora Organic Dairy (AOD) and its subsidiaries. The OCP entails continuous commitment to the values and ethics of AOD with respect for the USDA National Organic Program (NOP) regulations. This individual will also collaborate with Organic Compliance Department staff on priority projects utilizing communication, organizational, and analytical skills for auditing, reporting, and presenting with attention to detail.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Follow USDA NOP Regulations which include staying current with NOP rule changes, guidance documents, surveillance, and National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) recommendations.
- Maintain effective and timely written and verbal communications with AOD’s Accredited Certification Agents (ACAs) while maintaining confidentiality.
- Support Department staff by attending announced organic certification inspections across AOD operations.
- Conduct OCP projects in addition to routine monitoring, recordkeeping, auditing, reconciliations, and OSP updates as directed by Department management.
- Develop the OCP document control system and carry out process improvements by conducting internal record assessments, data entry, reconciliations, and reviews for the Department.
- Deliver punctual reports to be provided weekly, monthly, and annually as directed by Department management.
- Develop organic competency through cross-department collaboration.
- Attend regular training programs as directed by Department management.
- Travel required (50% percent).
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of experience with regulatory compliance and/or auditing or commensurate experience.
- Knowledge of USDA National Organic Program regulations strongly preferred.
- Training or Experience in compliance, quality systems or auditing preferred.
- Training or Experience in business, agriculture and/or livestock related field preferred.
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. SharePoint a plus.
- Spanish language skills a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time; be able to bend, stoop, kneel or crawl; reach grasp and lift up to 25lbs regularly and up to 50lbs occasionally. Available for scheduled travel to remote facilities via automobile or airline.
