Description What You Will Do

Specifically, this is a “hands-on” leadership role. You will assist multiple manufacturing sites and field services personnel with developing and implementing effective injury prevention programs while ensuring compliance with company global policies/procedures and regulatory requirements. You will also be responsible for helping to build consistency throughout the company by providing functional/technical expertise to multiple site safety personnel and assisting operational leaders with building a stronger safety culture.

Role Specific Responsibilities

  • Proactively coach/mentor as well as challenge Aurorium’s existing safety culture.
  • Drive EHS Ownership through training and educating Front-Line Leadership on safety improvement opportunities.
  • Immerse yourself in the day-to-day operations by routinely visiting facilities to provide safety compliance assistance. Up to 50% travel required, on average.
  • Identify health & safety risks and hazards in the workplace and assist sites with developing and implementing prevention programs.
  • Advise operational leaders and employees on how to minimize hazards and risks in the workplace and improve health & safety performance.
  • Develop corporate procedures and support the sites in adopting and determining their respective applicability.
  • Assist sites in establishing the appropriate industrial hygiene/personnel monitoring requirements.
  • Establish performance indicators (KPIs) and evaluate performance of site-based compliance initiatives.
  • Ensure injuries, illnesses and near misses are reported to the global environmental, health & safety department and business leaders.
  • Participate in incident investigations, risk assessments, and process hazard analyses as needed.
  • Participate in site EHS assessments/audits and support the tracking and closure of corrective actions.
  • Support the implementation and use of digital EHS management systems in tracking safety observations, incidents, corrective actions, and training requirements.
  • Collaborate with corporate staff and site EHS personnel on developing monthly and quarterly feedback/reports to site and executive leadership.
  • Support OSHA Process Safety and EPA Risk Management Plan compliance and initiatives.
  • Assist sites and regions with preparing and responding to regulatory inquiries/notices of violations by federal, state, provincial and governmental safety, and health authorities.
  • Interface with external stakeholders in an effort to promote and improve on-site safety performance (e.g., contractor management and emergency response personnel).
  • Performs other duties as may be required or assigned

  • Complies with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures, and arrangements
  • Reports all Health, Safety and Environmental accidents, incidents and near misses promptly
  • Acts in a safe and responsible manner at all times

  • Takes responsibility and ownership for own learning and development in the spirit of continuous improvement of both self and the business
  • Assists in the training, mentoring, and assessment of other team members
  • Exercises autonomy and judgement subject to overall direction or guidance

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • B. S. Degree required, Engineering or Science Degree and/or M.S. Degree preferred
  • 10 to 15 years’ experience in improving occupational & health safety and industrial hygiene programs. 2 to 4 years of leadership experience.
  • Experience leading culture change and developing and implementing management systems.
  • Chemical plant or refining experience
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or other safety management credentials preferred
  • Experience with ISO Systems (14001 and/or 45001) preferred
  • Experience with Intelex and other digital training tools preferred
