SUPERVISES : May be required to assume additional duties when Lead is unavailable or as assigned

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Manage and assume responsibility for assigned 4E packages and DD250 items from planning to execution while providing appropriate work status updates
  • Ensure the work in progress is in accordance with the published schedule sequence and that production schedules are reasonable and achievable.
  • Provides coordination, guidance, and direction to the functional project leads to ensure that the work performed enables successful and efficient construction of the vessel with focus on milestone achievements and cost and schedule performance
  • Coordinate, mediate, and resolve craft specific production work sequence conflicts related to constraints that effect performance to cost and schedule
  • This position may be required to manage repair efforts in various offsite locations. The potential for offsite travel can potentially be in excess of 40-50%.
  • Maintain a daily presence regarding the work in progress to monitor safety, housekeeping, work progress, staff performance and continuous management of Austal labor and / or subcontractors executing work
  • Conduct craft meetings and participate in meetings as deemed appropriate by Project Lead
  • Coordinate with scheduler to lay out planned work in the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) all check point and test requirements
  • Perform validation of status reporting against the actual work being performed to ensure accuracy of reporting functions
  • Ensure compliance with quality procedures and documents while maintaining OQE in support task completion documentation
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with the contract requirements
  • Monitor and ensure required compliance with regulatory body and classification society guides, rules, and regulations
  • Maintain daily communication and interaction with the Project Lead to report status and concerns and have the ability to initiate and follow through with required variance analyses and associated corrective action plans
  • Monitor and validate resource requirements for actuals against planned work in progress and project labor requirements to completed defined task efforts while managing to the task agreed EAC
  • Monitor and validate use of rework and lessons learned processes and initiatives to promote continuous improvement.
  • Prepares SOW which depict an accurate detailed work scope necessary for task bid request and task execution requirements including all exit criteria to successfully close out the task
  • Proactive deck plate management to identify and resolve resource, material and information issues in AOR to allow work to progress to plan
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
  • Complies with Austal’s employee handbook general guidelines, company procedures and policies.

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE :

Required :

  • Five (5) years’ experience in a shipbuilding, ship repair or similar construction and manufacturing industrial type environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret shipbuilding contracts and specifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret regulatory body and classification society guides, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and data while navigating effectively with applicable software.
  • Ability to utilize and interpret relevant cost and schedule data reports including having a familiarity of scheduling software (Microsoft Project, etc.)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to efficiently validate, interpret and understand task scheduling or work sequencing.
  • Ability to use and interpret relevant cost and schedule data and use applicable software associated with these reporting functions.
  • Ability to understand schedule-reporting tools and be proficient in maintaining and validating schedule related data.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision and take initiative in all aspects of the position duties.
  • Willingness to work irregular and extended work hours as needed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Preferred :

  • Shipyard repair experience preferred

    Candidates must meet the following employment eligibility guidelines to be considered for employment with Austal USA :

  • 18 years of age or older at time of application
  • Able to provide proof of US Person Status
  • No felony convictions of Theft / Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition date
  • No felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition date
  • Willing to submit to a drug screen
  • Willing to submit to a background check
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain TWIC partner or prime shipyard(s) and Navy Base access credentials

    LIAISES WITH : All production departments and support departments, program team, project team, client, suppliers, subcontractors, and class and flag authorities

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS : The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to tour all vessels and work sites.

    This position will involve substantial time (as much as 100%) onboard the vessel at various degrees of construction, going up and down staircases and vertical ladders at heights reaching in excess of 75 feet in temperatures which, at times, can reach extreme levels.

    While performing the duties of this position, the employee is often required to stand, walk, utilize hands to manipulate, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to work at a computer station.

    Specific physical requirements include the following :

  • Must have the ability to bend, squat, stoop, crawl, and kneel
  • Withstand periods of prolonged standing
  • Ability to turn head from side to side and about the vertical axis
  • Ability to turn body at the waist from side to side and about the vertical axis
  • Lift / push / pull up to 75lbs on an occasional basis
  • Lift / push / pull up to 20lbs on a frequent basis
  • Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing as a minimum includes stairs, scaffolding, ladders, and ramps)
  • Ability to work at heights above 12’ while working from ladders, scaffolding and / or man lifts
  • Able to work at a variety of levels (ex. waist, eye, overhead)
  • Demonstrate the ability to safely and appropriately use required tools and equipment
  • Demonstrate good balance while working on uneven surfaces and maneuvering obstacles
  • Possess sufficient handgrip and coordination to carry and operate tools and equipment
  • Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel- toed shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards
  • Ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures
  • Ability to enter 18” x 36” openings and work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time
  • Able to respond to verbal and audible sounds / commands
  • Able to utilize adequate visual skills
  • Ability to fully extend the arm while reaching overhead, reaching out, reaching to the side, and reaching down
  • Ability to perceive attributes of an object / material such as size, shape, temperature and texture by means of receptors in the hands and fingers

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to humid conditions, bright flashing lights, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, outside weather conditions, and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes and / or airborne particles at or below the PEL, toxic or caustic chemicals, and heat and cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud, 90 dB.

    SAFETY : Must comply with federal, state, local, and company safety and environmental rules and regulations while performing daily position duties.
