What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Custodian, High School position at Austin Achieve Public Schools?
Austin Achieve Public Schools is a tuition-free, open-enrollment public charter school preparing Austin youth to attend and excel at the nation’s top colleges and universities. The Lead Custodian will lead the Night Custodial Team in an eFective manner that helps maintain the Austin Achieve campuses and create a welcoming environment for scholars to learn each day.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Daily supervision
- While on the clock, the Custodian Lead must always be reachable by phone to better serve our scholars.
- Provides quality control of the cleaning staff through daily spot audits and corrective on-the-spot instruction
- Strictly adheres to the daily schedule and ensures all Custodial staff do the same
- Conducts daily meetings with staff at the beginning of every shift
- Make sure the building is locked, secured, and clean.
Administration
- Monitors inventory/supply levels and submits orders to the Custodial Coordinator
- Maintains records in support of performance management efforts
- Makes recommendations for the purchase of cleaning products and equipment
Customer Service
- Develops relationships with stakeholders
- Develops a full understanding of stakeholder needs to stay ahead of requests and calls for service
- Keeps a close eye on staff needs and responds to feedback and calls for service
- Attends staff meetings and school events
Hands-on service
- Maintains several daily cleaning tasks and fills in for absences
- Ensures all classrooms, offices, and other utilized spaces are disinfected daily.
- As needed, performs a variety of tasks such as unclogging toilets, moving furniture, cleaning in a school environment
- Assists with repair and maintenance of campus where capable
- Reports all repair and maintenance needs to Custodial Coordinator or Maintenance Technician
Continuous Improvement
- Ensures all members of the custodial team are trained, following up on 5S Audits, Standard Work, and proper use of required equipment
- Implements innovations created by the Custodial Coordinator
- Performs duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualification
- Knowledge of floor scrubbers and buffers
- Minimal computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel
- Bilingual Preferred (English/Spanish)
- Willing to perform emergency cleanups of various substances, including, but not limited to, vomit and blood.
- Trained in the safe use of cleaning products and handling blood-borne pathogens
- Valid driver’s license
- Must meet certain physical requirements such as:
- ability to be on feet all-day
- able to maneuver all custodial equipment
- able to lift 50 lbs
- Candidate must have a satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background che

- Willingness to engage in collegial debate with teammates regarding essential decisions and rally behind decisions once they are made
Required Experience:
- Three to five years of experience, preferably in a school environment
- Good communication skills
- Good customer service skills
- Computer Literacy
