As an Adoption Counselor, you will have the opportunity to provide compassionate care for animals, bring pets and families together through a conversation-based counseling, provide adopters with tips and resources to support their pet’s growth and transition to a new home, and perform purpose-driven work!
This position is fast-paced and requires juggling many requests at once, but if making a significant difference in the lives of shelter animals is something you are passionate about, it just might be the most fulfilling job you’ve ever had.
A typical shift is 10am-7pm (8am-5pm for Sunday shifts), to be scheduled 3-4 days a week. This part-time role is asked to work Saturday, Sunday and one or two weekdays. AHS has staff onsite 365 days a year to provide animal care and support, so some holiday shifts should be expected too (with holiday pay!).
Who we are
AHS is Austin's oldest no-kill non-profit animal shelter, in operation since 1952. We perform over 8,000 spay/neuters each year and re-home about 4,000 dogs and cats a year. Our veterinary technicians ensure all pets in the adoption program are provided high-quality medical care and are spay/neutered during their stay with AHS.

Preferred job requirements: Previous experience in a forward-facing customer service position and being comfortable around cats and dogs. No previous animal experience is required. Since you'll have animals relying on you to meet their needs each day, consistent attendance is a must!
