MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Master’s degree in education from an accredited college or university is required. Three (3) years of successful teaching
experience is required. Two (2) years of proven leadership experience in a school district or campus operations in a modernized
learning environment is preferred. Experience in both elementary and secondary campuses is preferred. This position requires
a valid Texas drivers license. Some evenings and weekends are required for this position.

JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY
This role will provide Districtwide leadership and service in the planning and implementation of innovation and instruction for
all students, teachers, and leaders operating in modernized learning environments. The Assistant Director will be responsible
for campus-level staff and leadership professional development and district-level efforts to better align systems and practices
with the vision of the learning neighborhood and Austin ISD Educational Specifications. While this position will report to the
Director of the department, they will work directly with leadership of a variety of departments/divisions, particularly Teaching
Learning & Leading and Talent Strategy. The Assistant Director will be supporting both elementary and secondary campuses.
Work is performed under general supervision and in accordance with established policies and procedures. The employee must
be able to exercise initiative and independent judgment in achieving objectives, planning work details, and making decisions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist in facilitating Districtwide change efforts to shift learning environments to agile, responsive spaces. This

- Effectively communicate with staff from a broad range of departments and management levels, including division
profiles, curriculum, academic framework/vision, long-range plan recommendations, etc. with Austin ISD Educational
Specifications.
- Assist with Educational Commissioning and the transition process while we open new modernized spaces, supporting
- Develop and maintain methods for tracking the success of professional development and transition efforts, including
- Directly assist in establishing, developing, and supporting school sites with new types of learning spaces and/or
scheduling.
- Support campus leadership in the development of systems, practices, and expectations to support the use of new
Professional Learning Centers, etc.
- Provide constructive leadership through campus visitations, observations, and meetings with leadership to coordinate
- Function as a curriculum and instruction specialist providing staff professional development in support of utilizing new
- Engage with Campus Architectural Teams as needed to support mindset shifts around teaching and learning.
- Research and identify trends and innovative approaches to personalized learning and how these align with
- Cooperate with other departments and divisions in cross-departmental/divisional projects.
- Support Planning and Asset Management in the update of Austin ISD’s Educational Specifications.
- Support Post-Occupancy Evaluations of new learning spaces and how to subsequently improve how we operate and
- Support Construction Management on project scopes, establishing schedules, preparing project budgets, and
reviewing distribution of funds on single projects as well as multiple concurrent projects.

This position reports directly to the appropriate supervisor of the department. This position will have regular contact with
AISD administrators, staff, consultants, contractors, and community members.
