Job Overview:

The Facilities Manager in a manufacturing setting is responsible for the overall management of the facilitys infrastructure, utilities, machinery, and safety systems. This includes ensuring that the building and its systems are in optimal working condition, supporting production teams, minimizing downtime, and maintaining a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facility Maintenance:
    • Oversee daily operations, repairs, and maintenance of the building, equipment, machinery, and utilities.
    • Develop and manage a preventative maintenance program to reduce downtime and extend the life of equipment and machinery.
    • Coordinate with external contractors for specialized services and major repairs.
    • Ensure that all HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other essential systems are fully functional.
  • Health & Safety Compliance:
    • Ensure the facility complies with all health, safety, and environmental regulations (OSHA, EPA, local safety codes).
    • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
    • Lead the implementation and maintenance of emergency preparedness procedures (fire drills, evacuation plans, etc.).
    • Train employees on facility-related safety protocols and practices.
  • Facility Upkeep:
    • Manage facility cleanliness and organization, ensuring a clean, safe, and productive environment.
    • Oversee grounds maintenance, including landscaping, snow removal, and exterior upkeep.
    • Handle waste disposal and recycling programs in compliance with company policies and regulations.
  • Budgeting and Cost Control:
    • Develop and manage the facility management budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
    • Track and report on spending related to facility maintenance, repairs, and utilities.
    • Negotiate contracts with service providers and vendors to ensure cost-effective services.
  • Project Management:
    • Oversee facility-related projects such as office expansions, equipment installations, or upgrades to infrastructure.
    • Ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to specifications.
    • Coordinate with internal departments to minimize production disruptions during project execution.
  • Vendor and Contractor Management:
    • Evaluate and manage relationships with external vendors and contractors.
    • Ensure vendors adhere to service-level agreements (SLAs) and compliance requirements.
    • Manage contract renewals, pricing negotiations, and performance reviews for facility-related services.
  • Security and Access Control:
    • Oversee facility security systems, including surveillance, alarm systems, and access control.
    • Collaborate with security personnel to ensure that employee and product security measures are in place.
  • Sustainability Initiatives:
    • Support sustainability initiatives by implementing energy-saving programs and green practices within the facility.
    • Track energy consumption and work to reduce waste through efficient facility operations.
  • Reporting:
    • Provide regular reports to senior management on facility performance, maintenance activities, and budget status.
    • Document all facility maintenance, inspections, and safety audits.
  • Bachelors degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field (preferred).
  • Proven experience (5 years) in facilities management, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Strong understanding of building systems, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with budgeting and cost management.
  • Knowledge of relevant local, state, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
  • Strong project management skills and ability to work with contractors and vendors.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to solve problems and manage complex situations under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications such as Certified Facility Manager (CFM), LEED accreditation, or similar credentials.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes or industrial equipment maintenance.
