JOB SUMMARY
The Safety and Compliance Lead is responsible for overseeing and ensuring that safety and risk management strategies align with the Construction Business Unit's product and service goals. This role involves working with all product divisions to develop a cohesive safety strategy for each robot solution. The Safety and Compliance Lead collaborates closely with customers, product managers, engineering, operations, and other safety engineers to assess and mitigate risks, perform safety audits, and ensure compliance with safety standards and legal requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the development, implementation, and maintain comprehensive safety programs and policies to promote a safe autonomous environment, including hazard identification, risk assessments, emergency procedures, and incident reporting.
- Produce safety arguments and documentation that demonstrate how the company's robots will be deployed safely in construction environments.
- Conduct hazard and risk assessments (HARA) and Systems Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA) for the full construction site and associated applications to support the development of a full autonomous solution.
- Investigate safety incidents or non-compliance issues, lead root cause analysis, and support the implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain accurate records of safety activities, compliance reports, certifications, and regulatory documents.
- Prepare and present safety performance reports to senior management and regulatory authorities as required.
- Identify relevant product standards, regulations, and safety obligations based on the application, countries, and regions where the construction business products will operate to ensure compliance.
- Stay up to date with industry best practices and emerging trends in functional safety and compliance.
- Promote a culture of safety and compliance throughout the organization by fostering an environment where safety is prioritized and integrated into daily operations.
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, JOB SKILLS
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Science, or a related field.
- Preferred: Master's degree in a related field that supports product and service safety.
- Relevant certifications such as Certified Functional Safety Expert (CFSE), Certified Functional Safety Professional (CFSP), Automotive Functional Safety Professional (AFSP), Functional Safety Engineer or similar credentials are highly valued
Experience:
- 8-10 years of experience in safety and compliance roles, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or senior position.
- Proven track record of managing safety and compliance for large-scale projects, particularly those involving functional safety in industries such as robotics, automotive, machinery, or agricultural equipment.
- Specific experience with standards like UL 4600, ISO 26262, ISO 13849, ISO 25119, IEC 61508, or other industry specific safety standards and machinery directives.
Skills:
- In-depth understanding of functional safety standards and regulations that lead to safety certified products.
- Strong skills in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with functional safety like HARA, STPA, FMEA, and FTA.
- Expertise in designing and analyzing safety-critical systems. Knowledge of safety lifecycle processes and safety integrity levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex safety and compliance issues.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring all safety and compliance requirements are met.
- Detail-oriented, with strong organizational and documentation skills to maintain safety records and compliance reports.
- Analytical skills to evaluate safety data, conduct risk assessments, and identify areas for improvement.
- Proven leadership skills, including the ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong presentation skills with ability to summarize reports and analysis for leadership, customer, and regulatory authority reviews.
