POSITION SUMMARY
The Getty Marrow Archives Intern will be responsible for the cataloging of a selection of materials in the Theo Westenberger Archives (MSA.25). Theo Westenberger (1950-2008) was a renowned photographer who was born and raised in Southern California. She had a long and varied career as a freelance photographer and photojournalist who has had her work featured in numerous publications such as Condé Nast, Rolling Stone, LIFE, Sports Illustrated, Smithsonian, and more. The Theo Westenberger Archives is a large collection predominately consisting of Westenberger’s photographic prints, negatives, slides, transparencies and related documents, including model releases and tear sheets documenting the published photographs in magazine spreads.
The Getty Marrow Archives Intern may be asked to conduct in-depth research on Westenberger and her photography as well as the subjects of her photographs. The capstone project will be an Autry blog article or a presentation to Autry staff about the intern’s work throughout the summer.
Intern hours will be Monday-Friday, 9am-5:30pm. The intern may be required to attend related events that fall outside of this schedule, but not to exceed 40 hours per week overall.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- The intern will be responsible for reviewing, describing and potentially rehousing (moving materials into acid-free folders and/or boxes) a portion of the photographic and paper-based materials that make up the Westenberger Archives.
- The intern will conduct research and work with LAA staff to draft a biographical note for Theo Westenberger and assist with drafting a finding aid for the collection.
- The intern may also be asked to conduct in-depth research on Westenberger’s photography and the subjects of her photographs (typically celebrities and other well-known figures).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Be a member of a group underrepresented in careers related to art conservation, museums, and/or visual arts organizations, which can include groups defined by – among other things – socioeconomic status, cultural background, physical or other disability, geographical origin and/or any life experiences that add diverse and underrepresented perspectives.
- You must be currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate in either a bachelor’s degree program or an associate’s degree program. Students must have completed at least one semester or two-quarters of college by June. Students who graduated the semester or a quarter immediately before the internship begins are also eligible. (Students who are enrolled in a second BA or BS program are not eligible.)
- Attend college in or be a permanent resident of LA County; and
- Be a United States citizen or permanent resident (non-citizen authorized to live and work in the United States on a permanent basis; also known as a "green card" holder). Students with DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) status valid throughout the internship period are also eligible.
Please note that students who have previously served as Getty Marrow Undergraduate interns at the Autry Museum are not eligible for consideration. Finally, staff members and relatives of staff or board members are not eligible.

WORKING CONDITIONS
