POSITION SUMMARY
The Getty Marrow Curatorial Intern will work as part of the Autry’s curatorial team to learn about the full range of activities in exhibition research, interpretation, management, and installation. Through these activities and through interaction with the visiting public and Autry staff, including the education, conservation, and design departments, the intern will also learn about the workings of museums and the Autry Museum.
Reporting to the Senior Curator, the intern will have the opportunity to propose and work with the exhibition project team to develop content and design tied to the Autry’s exhibition Life, Liberty and Los Angeles (opening in May 2026). As part of this project, the intern with gain experience in historical and object research and the exhibition development process. The intern will have the opportunity to propose and work with the project team to develop content and design from start to end for an audio component tied to Life, Liberty and Los Angeles. The intern will also gain experience working with the conservation department to examine or analyze collection item(s), when culturally appropriate, to inform curatorial research for the upcoming exhibition. The intern will learn project and team management through working with the Senior Exhibitions Coordinator to learn skills in managing complex inter-departmental projects. Together these projects will provide the intern with insight into curatorial practice and opportunities to work collaboratively with curators, conservators, educators, collection staff, and designers on research and development of exhibition content
This internship is full-time (40 hours/week) for 10 consecutive weeks. The intern will be working Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, subject to change.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Participating in department and exhibition project planning meetings.
- Conduct independent research in primary and secondary sources that leads to public content for the exhibition
- Undertaking artifact research and object materials analysis in collaboration with the curatorial and conservation department
- Manage timelines and workflow
- Work inter-departmentally to propose and develop content related to the exhibition gallery and associated social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok,).
- Present research to project team verbally and in writing
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Be a member of a group underrepresented in careers related to art conservation, museums, and/or visual arts organizations, which can include groups defined by – among other things – socioeconomic status, cultural background, physical or other disability, geographical origin and/or any life experiences that add diverse and underrepresented perspectives.
- You must be currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate in either a bachelor’s degree program or an associate’s degree program. Students must have completed at least one semester or two-quarters of college by June. Students who graduated the semester or a quarter immediately before the internship begins are also eligible. (Students who are enrolled in a second BA or BS program are not eligible.)
- Attend college in or be a permanent resident of LA County; and
- Be a United States citizen or permanent resident (non-citizen authorized to live and work in the United States on a permanent basis; also known as a "green card" holder). Students with DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) status valid throughout the internship period are also eligible.
Please note that students who have previously served as Getty Marrow Undergraduate interns at the Autry Museum are not eligible for consideration. Finally, staff members and relatives of staff or board members are not eligible.

WORKING CONDITIONS

- Travel between the two main campuses might be occasionally necessary – less than 3 miles apart.
