Property & Grounds Maintenance

· Receive daily written or verbal assignments from manager to maintain grounds, trails and roadways according to weather and maintenance schedule.

· Conduct preliminary assessments of the preserve grounds and trails to identify and report safety concerns, such as slip/trip hazards (fallen trees/branches, ice/slippery areas, etc.).

· Assist with the maintenance of the trails and sculptures to clear and remove debris, such as fallen branches/tree limbs, trash and other debris; Clean and maintain sculptures; Conduct graffiti cleanup.

· In appropriate season, perform general landscape maintenance such as: prepare soil, mulch and wood chip, weed/weed whacks, rolls lawns, mow grass, seed/lay sod, aerate and thatches lawns, remove leaves/brush, erosion repair, clean gutters and storm drains, trim hedges and prune low limbs utilizing appropriate power tools, watering, set up / take down and monitoring of sprinklers.

· Perform power washing / cleaning of decking, stone and structures.

· Assist with trenching and backfilling for conduit, drainage, irrigation, etc.

· Assist with fencing installation and repairs.

· Emergency response during off hours / weekends as needed.

· In winter months, operate snow removal equipment (snow blower) to clear and maintain paths and roadways; Shovel snow, salt and sand to clear walkways and doorways.

· Assist with masonry applications and repairs, such as mixing concrete and moving stone.

· Assist with carpentry projects and repairs of facilities and structures, such as gate and deck repairs, spackling, painting and staining.

· Maintain clean and organized indoor and outdoor workspaces.

· Assist with material delivery.

· Complete local shopping needs as instructed.

· Assist other departments as needed, such as moving furniture or installation/moving of hoophouse structures.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

Vehicles & Equipment Operation and Maintenance

· Receive daily written or verbal assignments from manager to maintain vehicles and equipment according to weather and maintenance schedule; Keep manager apprised of status and record all maintenance in software log.

· Safely and effectively operate and maintain vehicles and vehicles with lift gates, small equipment & tools, such as but not limited to: weed whackers / line trimmers, hedge trimmers, snow blowers, ladders, leaf blower, power washer, lawn mower, cement mixer, hand tools (shovels, rakes, pitch fork, brooms), wheel barrows, garden hoses & sprinklers, wood working tools, aerater, and power thatcher.

· Fuel equipment and vehicles.

· Clean and wash vehicles, maintain good condition of vehicles / cleans out vehicle garbage daily; Record maintenance on relevant software log.

· Check fluids – oil, transmission fluid, anti-freeze, steering, hydraulic, etc.

Administrative

· Fill out service request form as needed.

· Effectively use and update status of work assignments in maintenance ticketing system; Ensure all work orders are completed in a timely manner and keep manager apprised of status.

· Ensure all supply requests are forwarded to the manager for approval and timely purchase.

· Report to manager for any needed repairs and record on relevant software log.

Preliminary - Safety Awareness & Compliance

· Knowledge in the identification and effective / proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) for individual tasks.

· Compliance to company policy and safety protocol at all times; Report any incidents or concerns immediately to manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

· Ability and willingness to work outdoors for long periods of time in variable / adverse weather conditions.

· Well-rounded with practical hands-on maintenance skills.

· Demonstrate a positive attitude and work cohesively as a team.

· Knowledge and interest in landscaping maintenance preferred.

· Ability to lift heavy objects and remain physically active throughout the day.

· Mathematical and reasoning ability - ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; Ability to apply common sense to problem solve and carry out written or verbal instructions.

· Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions and correspondence.

· Strong work ethic and focus, careful attention to detail.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Valid NYS driver’s license.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk long distances; utilize hand and finger dexterity; talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds while using proper equipment and assistance to avoid straining. Occasionally, the employee must lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and rarely lift and/or move up to 100 pounds using proper equipment and assistance.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Additional Requirements Include:

  • Ability to hear and respond quickly to sounds.
  • Ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather.
  • Ability to wear personal protective gear correctly, when required.

Education / Experience

· High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Experience in grounds maintenance and/or landscaping preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $20.00 per hour
