This hands-on position involves training and coaching team members, supporting launches, enhancing operational efficiency, and driving lean manufacturing practices on the plant floor.

Job Summary
The Manufacturing Plant Capability and Continuous Improvement Specialist is responsible for ensuring the successful integration of new processes, technologies, and continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing environment. This hands-on position involves training and coaching team members, supporting launches, enhancing operational efficiency, and driving lean manufacturing practices on the plant floor.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide training and coaching for hourly and salaried team members and team leaders on new job elements, product changes, and technology upgrades.
- Train team leaders and team members incorporating new work content into existing processes.
- Support the development of standardized work documents (SWS, JSA, PVS, QFA, etc.) and conduct training on their use.
- Facilitate Kaizen and other continuous improvement workshops, training team members in lean manufacturing strategies and tools.
- Support all launch activities, including station readiness, process validation, and material validation for builds (e.g., IVER, PTR, ETO).
- Act as a liaison between teams, shifts, and launch/operations functions to ensure smooth communication and issue resolution.
- Participate in the development and setup of job station layouts, equipment placement, and parts presentation.
- Maintain build-related documentation, including build books, buy-off sheets, and training materials.
- Conduct continuous improvement activities, such as evaluating tools, assistance devices, and parts presentation to enhance productivity and quality.
- Assist teams in implementing the Daily Management System (DMS), including WPO standards, team boards, visual management tools, and 5S practices.
- Evaluate job elements and times to support line balancing and throughput improvement activities.
- Work with team leaders to eliminate waste, streamline processes, and achieve lean manufacturing goals.
- Participate in the validation and debugging of new tooling and equipment, attending run-offs and assisting with adjustments.
- Replace team members or team leaders when necessary to ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to develop and follow up on work orders related to process rearrangements.
- Be flexible and available to work across shifts, different areas, and travel when required to support plant operations or special projects.

- Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: 2 years working in a production environment

- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement tools (e.g., Kaizen, 5S, line balancing, value stream mapping).
- Experience developing and maintaining standardized work documentation and training materials.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for coaching and training across diverse teams.
- Proficiency in using data analysis tools to assess processes and make recommendations for improvement.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment validation, and material logistics.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work in a cross-functional environment with all levels of Management and the Union and network to leverage new ideas and lessons learned from other plants.
- Able to work independently without close supervision.
- Knowledge of MS Teams and basic MS Office computer skills.
