Technician Gas Measurement

The base salary for this position is depenent upon experience and location, ranging from to$64,000 to $80,600
Job Summary:
The gas measurement technician is responsible for maintaining the accuracy of the natural gas measurement equipment for industrial and commercial customer locations and gate stations (natural gas purchase points) throughout AVANGRIDs gas service areas. Main duties include annual maintenance and calibration for the largest natural gas customers gas measurement equipment including meters, volume correctors, regulators, and telemetering equipment. Additional duties may include witnessing the testing of gas measurement equipment at purchase points, collecting and analyzing gas quality samples, field testing industrial gas meters, and performing the installation, calibration, and maintenance of gas measurement equipment at large customer locations. The technician will act as an ambassador for the company when interacting with local division personnel, transmission company employees, PSC representatives, and customers to ensure the accurate measurement of natural gas.
Major Roles & Responsibilities
The gas measurement technician works independently with minimal supervision to accomplish the following PSC regulated functions:
1. Installs, calibrates, and maintains gas volume correctors on large industrial gas meters
2. Performs measurement inspections on gas regulators including pressure checks at fixed-factor billing customer locations to verify measurement accuracy
3. Witnesses the testing of measurement equipment at gas purchase stations with transmission company employees and PSC representatives
4. Collects and analyzes gas samples at purchase stations and local production entry points
5. Field tests or exchanges large industrial gas meters with the assistance of gas fitters
6. Installs and repairs pulse equipment on transportation gas meters
7. Investigates industrial customer inquiries regarding high/low usage, and works with customer to resolve metering issues
Education & Experience Required:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- An Associates Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Technology Discipline Preferred.
- Must pass Gas Operator Qualifications within the first 3 months of hire as required by the NGA and NYSEG.
- Position requires strong technical aptitude, understanding of metrology principles, and strong problem solving skills
- Must be physically able to complete assigned days work.
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer/Technology aptitude required.
- Must be able to use field computers and equipment for data collection as well as sending emails and electronic pictures.
