A Brief Overview
Supports the hospital's goal of excellence in patient care in a Christian, caring environment by facilitating positive employee relations, supporting department goals, medical staff and public. All duties and responsibilities will be performed in such a way as to demonstrate and support the hospital's Catholic, Benedictine and Presentation sponsorship and its values of hospitality, compassion and stewardship. The Vice President plans, directs, delegates, implements and evaluates care delivery and personnel within sound economic guidelines. Develops and markets a continuum of care that meets the needs of the community and Avera's regional service area.
What you will do
- Reviews and recommends organizational changes in administrative policies in order to carry out the objectives and mission of the hospital and participates in policy decisions that affect patient services. Participates in short and long range planning.
- Participates in effective management of financial, human, material and information resources.
- Develops and implements the hospital’s plan for providing patient care.
- Establishes appropriate nursing policies, procedures, nursing standards of patient care and standards of nursing practice which describe and guide the provision of nursing care as required by all patients and patient populations served by the hospital.
- Provides and maintains effective communication with the community, medical staff and all levels of supervision and staff to promote positive interpersonal relationships. Participates in Medical Staff, Hospital and Board committees as assigned.
- Oversees the implementation and on-going review of the quality improvement activities of nursing and medical group services. Responsible for the planning, implementation, and achievement of outcome measures for all of the employee, patient satisfaction, quality and financial stewardship measures that apply to the discipline of nursing and medical group as well as areas of direct responsibility. Collaborates with others to assure the achievement of related goals to include quality measures.
- Ensures that assigned departments maintain compliance with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.
- Maintains effective ongoing communication with other Avera Health clinical administration regarding standards, policies, quality improvement, services and other factors that impact clinical services.
- Maintains professional affiliations and enhances professional growth and development to keep abreast of the latest trends in hospital administration, nursing and health care. Participates in community and civic service organizations as directed.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and leading work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Essential Qualifications
The individual must be able to work the hours specified. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily including having visual acuity adequate to perform position duties and the ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds. Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
- Bachelor's in Nursing
- Registered Nurse (RN) - Board of Nursing An active license in the state of practice Upon Hire
- 4-6 years experience as RN in a healthcare environment
- Minimum of 2 years in a progressive management capacity
Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
- Master's in Health Service Administration or Nursing
