What are the responsibilities and job description for the Phlebotomist/CMA position at Avery Partners?
Avery Partners is looking for a Medical Assistant that also has their phlebotomy certification. Position is full time Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Fri 7:40-5pm. Wed 8am-12pm. Job duties will include mostly working in the lab and filling in as a MA as needed. The Phlebotomist will provide hands-on patient care under the direction of the practice providers including but not limited to triage and patient education.
Position Specific Duties:
1. Reports to work on time, in proper uniform attire and a professional appearance
2. Greets patients/visitors in a courteous and professional manner
3. Demonstrates courteous and professional telephone etiquette with staff and public
4. You will serve as an ambassador to this practice. It is important to make each patient feels welcome. Be mindful that your actions and conversations should always be professional.
5. Utilizes Athenahealth Electronic Health Record system
6. Verify patient information before beginning care or phone encounter
7. Performs blood draws and obtains urine specimens for UA as needed and ordered by provider.
8. Prints lab orders entered by provider
9. Prints insurance cards to accompany lab work being sent out
10. Package and process specimen as needed
11. Instruct patients in completing and sending specialty test kits
12. Manage lab schedule
13. Order lab and IV related supplies
14. Bring back patients to draw chair or room as appropriate
15. Arrange for lab pickups
16. Prep for next day’s scheduled patients
17. Administers medication and subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as ordered by provider.
18. Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests, taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature, reporting patient history summary, and accurately updating current medication list at each visit, keeping patient information confidential.
19. Assists with office procedures such as but not limited to pellets, PRP, wound care or hydration.
20. Communicates to patients the provider’s order plans and answers questions about the visit.
21. Assist with administrative functions such as checking voice messages for clinical staff, scanning (EKG, Spirometry, BIA), addressing task box items promptly, unboxing and storing supplies in supply closet
22. Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and policies and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
