Job Summary
AVICO Distribution is a family-owned business that has been serving Upstate New York for over 95 years. We are a food services distributor with a cash-and-carry store presence. We primarily deliver to businesses such as restaurants and pizzerias, and also sell directly to businesses and the public at a cash-and-carry store.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Purchasing Assistant to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the procurement process by assisting with order entry, sourcing, inventory control, and logistics. This position requires strong organizational skills.
Responsibilities
- Develop, lead and execute purchasing strategies
- Manage inventory control to ensure optimal stock levels are maintained
- Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness
- Process purchase orders and contracts
- Monitor logistics to ensure timely delivery of goods
- Maintain accurate records of purchases and supplier
- Help coordinate with warehouse and cash-and-carry store to fulfill purchasing needs efficiently.
- Seek and partner with reliable vendors and suppliers
- Partner with sales team and cash and carry store to make maintain optimal inventory levels
- Coordinate inventory cycle counts
- Conducts all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly manages two or more employees in the Purchasing Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Skills
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; preferably in supply Chain Management, Logistics or Business Administration or 10 years of purchasing and related fields experience
- Familiarity with computer systems.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proven experience with sourcing, negotiation and vendor management
- Ability to gather and analyze data
- Possess strong leadership skills and networking capabilities
- Experience and knowledge in Eagle ERP software is a plus
