The primary role of the Audiovisual (AV) Field Engineer - III is to provide technical commissioning support for AV/IT systems in the field. The areas of expertise are varied and require advanced, detailed technical knowledge of audiovisual systems including networking, audio and video equipment and the associated software, which includes intermediate level control system program editing with remote assistance. This position requires attention to detail, punctuality, good communication skills, and the skills needed to commission an audiovisual system installation.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Associate degree or equivalent experience.is preferred.
- Must have an AVIXA CTS certification.
- Must attain a CompTIA Network certification within two years of starting this position.
- 6 years of experience in technical AV/IT and/or field engineering support.
- Proficiency with both Windows and Apple software.
- Expertise in setting up and color balancing video displays.
- Advanced proficiency in loading, testing, and editing control code and graphical user interface files for AV systems from manufacturers like AMX, Crestron, Extron, QSC, etc.
- Strong knowledge of Crestron, Extron, and AMX programming languages;
- familiarity with Python, HTML, C#, or similar programming languages, and digital communication protocols such as IP, RS232, RS485, and USB.
- Advanced proficiency in setting up and adjusting audio/video equipment, including video and audio-conferencing systems.
- Advanced skills in using audiovisual and IT software, hand tools, and test equipment.
- Extensive experience with digital signal processors (DSP) such as Biamp, BSS, Crestron, Extron, and QSC.
- Advanced proficiency in configuring wired and wireless TCP/IP networks.
- Excellent communication, customer service, organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Flexibility to travel, including overnight stays for projects outside the local area.
- Work hours may vary based on project needs, including early mornings, late nights, and weekend commitments.
- Ability to work in environments with power tools, construction hazards, and heights.
- Mobility requirements include walking, climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 pounds (with assistance), and working in diverse conditions (hot, cold, humid environments).
- Provide engineering support, including equipment configuration, programming, troubleshooting, and documentation to project teams.
- Collaborate with project teams to prepare control system submittals.
- Load, test, and edit control code and graphical user interface files, with remote assistance as needed.
- Conduct systems testing, commissioning, and punch list preparation.
- Assist with tasks required during the job commissioning phase, ensuring that system quality and performance meet project requirements for Final Acceptance approval.
- Ensure each system is physically complete per contract documents.
- Identify potential change order opportunities and communicate them to Project Leads.
- Accurately mark-up field documentation and maintain job-related configuration files, code, and programs.
- Provide system training to clients or owners when necessary.
- Offer technical guidance to other AV Field Engineers as they develop skills.
- Contribute to performance reviews, interview processes, and the development of training plans.
- Act as a primary mentor for new hires and trainees when assigned by management.
- Adhere to OSHA safety standards and company safety protocols.
- Attend safety and coordination meetings as required.
- Maintain certifications and attend necessary training classes as directed by management.
- Strive to maintain an 80% billable/chargeable workload through engineering and technical work.
